My 70 442 only had 15K miles in 1983

I was going through the paperwork that came with the 1970 442 I bought and it appears the car had only 15K miles in 1983 - that is a little over 1K miles a year. Of course it now has 120K but I found it amazing that for the first 13 years it logged just over 1k miles a year. I guess people didn't travel far back then. My wife puts 20k a year on her car and I do just over 15K on mine. It's funny how times have changed

Are you sure it wasn't 115,000 miles? Seems like many people put about 10,000 miles a year on their daily drivers.

If it was just 15,000 miles, then the car was likely not a daily driver, probably someone's toy from day one.

Either scenario is possible. Pretty cool to think your car may have been an incredible find in 83. Back in the 80's, it was common to still use these cars as daily drivers. From 85-88, I put 35K miles on my 69 GTO convertible. I was in college and it didn't matter if it was sunny, raining, or snowing. I could put 20 gallons in the tank for about $16. That was good for about 200 miles.

From the receipts and insurance information it looks like 12K in 82 and 15K in 83, so it looks right to me.

That is probably the reason you have it, so it should not be amazing. Cars that were used on a "regular" basis are virtually all gone.

What you don't know is that mileage was put on 1/4 mile at a time.

No I can tell a well cared for car from most 1/4 mile cars, ThankYou. The first owner of the car was a fanatic car never saw rain and he would only set the parking brake with his hand not his foot! I also know a few low low milage Stock eliminator cars that are no worse for wear and all they ever saw was the track .
