330 small block
330 small block
I have a 1965 Jetstar 88 and am looking at putting either a 330 or 350 small block in it. I don't want anything to complex as I know a little about motors but not enough to under go a full restoration myself. Would the 350 bolt up to my Jetaway the same as a 330? what would be a decent price to pay for a running small block olds? what all small blocks do you think would bolt up to the Jetaway?
Your car came with a 330. A 350 or 403 will bolt right up. So will a 400 or 425 and 455 but the 2 speed trans would be the weak link behind a big block.

Any 1964-1990 Olds V8 (except the 394) bolts up to your trans and motor mounts. The one thing you do need to be aware of is that Olds changed the crankshaft flange bolt pattern in 1968. The 1964-67 motors use one flexplate, the 1968-1990 motors use a different one. Just get the flexplate that matches the motor and it's a bolt-in.
So the Jetstar 88 is a b-body car correct? would I have any problems like fitting a 455 between the a arms or a special way the exhaust needs to run? I plan on a small block for it just I'm curious on information about the car.
Yes it is a B body but came with Cutlass style rear differential and wheel bolt patterns. The rest of the b bodies in 65 came with the 425 BB engine but with the turbo 400 trans and not the 2 speed jetaway. The 455 will fit no problem as it is the same externally as the 425.
"Any" includes the 455. You will need the correct B/C-body BBO exhaust manifolds if you go this way. Thorton repros the driver's side manifold, which is unique for the 1965-70 B/C-body cars with duals. This is due to the rear-steer linkage configuration.
just make sure you use your jetstar ( big Car ) motor mounts ... and on the 330 small block the mounts on the engine pad use different holes for mounting to big car. Also if you have an a/c car, you will need big car brackets for that. As far as trans selection I would go with the 66 67 TH400 long tail switch pitch unit that has the speedo on the front hub as your 65 is configured. you may need to have a driveshaft made.
Yes, which is why I wrote this:
Specifically, they are Anchor P/N 2262 and 2263 if you need new ones (a good idea in any case with a new motor).

Every 1964-1990 Olds V8 block has three motor mount bolt holes per side. The front two are used on the 1964-70 B/C-body cars and the 1973-74 X-body cars. All others use the rear two holes. The BBO/SBO distinction does not apply.
You can use any long tail TH400. If the particular trans has a speedo drive (which is MUCH easier to find), simply don't use it. It won't leak. If you can find a 65-70 B-body driveshaft for a TH400, that will be a bolt-in. If not, yes you'll need to have one made as the TH400 is longer than the Jetaway.
