Fisher Body

Amazing how many workers GM employed in the 70's.
Great video showing the cars from design through production.
Computers have replaced 90% of the work force...probably where most all the American jobs went.

Interesting BIO, "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet that he notes is certainly one of my all time favorite books! - Steven

I think that the first words of the video say it all:

"The beating heart of a modern nation:
Billions of pounds of steel every year.
Millions of pounds of glass and aluminum, of rubber and plastic, of copper and lead, and zinc alloys.
Millions of yards of fabrics, all being cut and stamped and sewn.
Components being readied for assembly.
All destined to serve the transportation needs of a modern society that has grown and prospered in large part because of the automobile and what is has allowed people to do.
From twenty different fabricating plants they come, from thousands of supplier companies: components of all sizes and shapes, arriving in twenty-six assembly plants here and in Canada, each part to be assembled together with the next..."

And now we all get to live to see exactly what happens when the beating heart is torn out of a nation, and millions of jobs making things that have good value are replaced by millions more jobs where most of the value is added when the employee asks "Would you like fries with that?"

Learn Chinese.
