funny how things work out sometimes...
On Saturday the family and I went out on an extended cruise in the cutlass with the top down. If you are familiar with the mid-atlantic states, we went up to Luray Caverns. The olds purred like a dream the whole way there and back...no problems at all.
Go outside this morning and there is antifreeze all over the place under the car. I guess that the water pump decided to die.
The funny part is, is that the only thing that I could think is that at least it decided to die at home in my driveway and not 100 miles away on the side of some highway on a Saturday evening when everything is closed with my family in the car.
Sometimes stuff just works out.

Bad water pump, bad water pump!! There, now it's been properly addressed

Easy fix though, glad it happened at home. That would have ruined your cruise and family outing.

Well the good news is. I came and bought some rims he had today. So at least you have some money for the water pump. Although I'm sure you had it spent for something else.
I will say it was nice meeting you today and hope you fix your car soon.

Good story with a happy, albeit familiar, ending...
I drove my '72 Cutlass Supreme almost every day from late 1992 until early 2000. The car NEVER stranded me anywhere. If something began to fail (ie rear, alternator, carb, etc...) I was always able to get home. Love these cars!
I wish you continued fortune and good times with your convertible.

Last year I had my brakes fail in my driveway after a 150/200mile cruise. We took a ride to Hooper's Island. Around here we say "It is not the end of the world but you can see it from there."

Found a new water pump last night on Amazon. Only $30 with free 2 day delivery. I should have it by Wednesday and be back on the road by the weekend.
And I think that I WILL buy a lottery ticket today on my way home from work. Thanks.

Be sure to compare the old and new pumps before installation. There's about a 95% chance that you will get the wrong pump. and you've clearly already used up all your luck on this one.
The photos that I took of the old one when I was comparing were matching up to what I ordered. I also made sure that this water pump was for an olds with a/c (even if mine does not work).
But thanks for the advice. I will defintatly compare them before installation.
