Suspension Work and Paint

Installed new bushings, springs, shocks and ball joints.

I think my buddy John was thirsty after sand blasting.

Moog parts

Upper control arm mounting hole is looking a little egg-like
Thanks John for the free replacement!

Painted and ready for installation

Faux W27 rear end paint. Asked for a W27 cover for Christmas so I hope it's under the tree tomorrow morning.

Control arms

Looks nice Charlie, I've been busy modifing the upper control arms off of the donor car. I'm moving the ball joint hole back 11/16" and hope to get 4 degrees of positive caster.

Added 6 inches to the length of the frame/wheelbase in the donor car (95 Caprice) to put under my 1950 Olds 98. Easier than I thought it would be. I didn't have to cut and splice any fuel or brake lines and they all went back into the original clamps so they'll be out of the way.

All new LL 1157 bulbs in back of wagon after a few headlights replaced and found a wire I had connected that made the blinkers crazy and cut that. It was trailer harness. Now it works perfect. Oh and then scored a new in box Olds cam for $75 and a almost complete 67-68 TO code 31 spline 3.91 rearend on the cheap cheap cheap

Jack and I put "Suzy's " rear end back in. (Jack not name , Jack job !)

Jack gently lifted her rear into place while I wiggled it around and slid in all the bolts.

Looks great!

Not much happening here in the frozen Iowa plains, where the high temps have been like 5 degrees, not factoring for wind chill..

Prior, put a new alternator on. Going to look at relocating the engine ground straps, as either the old regulator in the alternator was going bad,or have some bad grounds as the lights flicker when I use the headlights at night.

Going to install a fuel check valve off of fuel tank that I acquired, see if that helps solve the fuel drain back from carb...

Been considering getting some LED 1157 bulbs for the tail lights, on a previous thread several options given, pros/cons, a good video comparing Plasma LED, LED tower, to incandescent.

Off and on working on car's history with family for a binder along with dealer promotional items for car shows..

About all I got

Took the Old Lady (Mistress) to the coffee and cars show this morning. The ricers and BMW's were there in mass but the Oldsmobile still stood out despite her age. Good time was had by all..... Tedd

Had a few hours in shop, waxed and dropped the top, not too bad for sitting close to 30 years. Also added the front marker light trims both sides, been in the box for over 35 years.....😬

Put in all new firewall and underdash insulation while the whole interior was apart and the dash was out being replated and detailed. Still got a long way to go on the total restoration started a few years ago on the 66 Cutlass I've had since 1975.

Put my rear end on the floor

Removed the rear suspension and exhaust system. Tank looks new but painted, it's coming out next for the sniper EFI tank after I strip and paint the undercarriage.

Drove wagon last Friday to the little mountains in SE Oklahoma to go meet friends and camp out. No issues at all driving about 600 miles other than bad MPG (12). That carb has always ran and drove well but it never had gotten good mileage. Time to get back in it. I used it on my sons 350 truck and it did the same 12. On his truck I swapped my "race" 800 Qjet on and it got 14-15 ..LOL

Tore apart 350 that had been in the car when I bought it. Previous owner said it stopped running "suddenly."

I check in on my girl having her winter hibernation across town. Still sleeping soundly. I better get the Vette fixed soon and out of her spot in the shop. Spring is not to far away.

Got some surface rust. Glad I took the tank out.
Got most of the flaking undercoat off. Called it a day.

Coated inside the frame.

Ran an airline thru the frame, washed out a lot of crap with a water hose, let it dry, air line one more time then used Eastwood internal frame coating to seal inside.

Finishing up “custom” radiator hoses. I didn’t ike the way the lower hose fit and rubbed against the idler arm bracket on the frame. Trying to get all the lose ends done before the first engine fire up on March 17th.

Road Trip

The roads were mostly dry so I took a 400 mile round trip in the D88 Coupe to Detroit for the Detroit Auto-Rama and rolled the odometer over on the way home. Then had to give it a wash today due to a little bit of road spray. Back into winter storage for about another month or do.
