Very cool

Ever get a deja vu feeling when you see a car? I get them all the time. I'm usually thinking "where have I seen that car before?" I was looking at this ad on ebay and noticed this car that needed a lot of body work and as I looked at the main pic I got that feeling again. Only this time it struck me where I'd seen the car before. Probably 2 or 3 years ago I was looking for a video with someone taking an Olds for a cruise. There weren't too many on youtube like there are now.

Anyways, looking at the ebay ad, I noticed the red trunklid and got to wondering if it was the same car as in the video, because i didn't remember the car in the video having painted bumpers, but it's the same car. Looks like the years haven't been kind to the old girl, as she needs a ton of work.

I don't think I've ever seen a trunk pan in as bad shape as this car. I tried to copy the picture to post it here, but Google Chrome won't let me.

Very small world. I was checking the ad further and I see he's a member here and has the car for sale in the "Cars For Sale" section. Also very cool.

I know........I know........small things amuse small minds...

Posi was not standard equipment on base 442s - even 68-71. I shut down the comments on that video because of such a backlash about non posi and claims that the car was not a real 442.

Here you go. At one point years ago I began to tear the trunk pan out with grandiose plans to replace it but this is as far as I got.

That race car from Lubik Olds brought back memories. That's where my father picked up the 70 Toronado when he came back from Vietnam the second time. I might even have that chrome dealer badge somewhere.

Yeah I love that car. Currently obsessed with it for about a year now. 71 SX convertible originally built by John(Jack Troxell) but before he could race it was sold to Dick Griffin at the 71 Indy Nationals and briefly raced by Griffin's partner Al Seger. The car was painted white and converted to a 72 for the 72 season. Supremacy painted on on the door. Some said the car was later sold with an incorrect 350 engine and the 72 changes in tact.

I've seen the top one before. It didn't come up when I did a search, this time. I've never seen the bottom one, though. I like see interior videos of these cars. The V8 rumble sounds amazing. I gotta get mine finished.....

Oh......the big hole was from being cut? I thought it was rot. I noticed the wheel opening metal still looks decent. Or it does in the pictures...

These videos were shot September 2007. I think I put the dates in the description.

I think I used a pair of pliers. I kept gripping onto the metal on the edge of small hole and twisting it and got that much out. I got tired and quit. I guess I shouldnt have done it. Ideally it needs a new trunk pan as well as most everything else. I guess the trunk pan was average for this part of the country. A few small holes.

Yep.....I noticed it said 2007. I noticed them around 2009. At that time there were only a few Olds 442 videos on youtube. Now there are tons of them.

I always leave the metal alone until I have the panel to replace it. A small hole is bad enough, but a big hole would drive me crazy. Once I have the panel, then I usually use a zipcut or my plasma cutter to cut out the old panel. I try to do it quickly so no one can see it! (it's difficult to do because I always have the locals snooping around my garage, seeing what I'm up to) When I replaced the rear wheel lip section of my car, my son wanted me to take pictures. But I said "no" because I didn't want anyone seeing it with a big hole over the wheels.

Earliest pictures. Circa November 2000. Noticed the robbed grilles.

May or June 2001. Now with a 72 Supreme hood that was a good color match. I wish I had never spray painted the car.

2004 Now with Walmart Almond spray paint. Also the use of 71 Supreme grilles for many
years.

Me holding the hood down before I could put the latch assembly from 72 S donor car in.
Another rust free trunk. This one with original paint. From Bill Hudsons 70 W-30 race car
that got hit on the trailer on I-65 for any racers here that knew him and that story.
The trunk is warped as a result.

Me again with the latch and lock assembly installed.
That's a 71 SX behind me that is no longer with us.

442 tribute

I disabled comments on this video because of all the people that accused the car of not being a
real 442 because it didnt have a posi. I got tired of defending the car as a real 442 to people
who didnt know what they were talking about.

I can tell you're really going to miss that car. I'm glad I'm able to do body work because I couldn't afford to have someone repair my car for me. And I'd miss mine the same way you're going to miss that one.
