Frame?
Are the 442 and cutlass frames the same as in thickness?
Is there any difference in the frames?

 

they are the same and are the same frame as 68-72 A bodies such as skylark, chevelle, tempest, etc. there is a difference from convertibles to hardtops.

 

I was thinking they were the same. I was told by some car fanatos that the Buick GS had a stronger frame than the skylark and that the 442 came with a stronger frame as well.I know that the GS had extra bolt on braces cant remember if the 442 had the same. I know GM boxed the convert frame.

Performance versions of the A-bodies had bolt-on braces that ran between the attach points for the upper and lower rear control arms. Hardly a "stronger frame" and a part that is easily bolted on to any A-body.

 

The story of the GS400 Buick seems to be that convertible frames were used on the early model years. I have not tried to verify this. Olds offered the same frame as option F35, cost $12.53 in 1966.
