And the firing order is counterclockwise. I've made the mistake of putting it in the right order but going in the wrong direction!
You'll have to figure out where it goes on the cap by getting your number 1 cylinder on top dead center of the compression stroke. That's easiest to do with two people, but if your by yourself remove the spark plug, screw it back in just a little, so air can escape around the threads. Then put a large socket on the crank pully bolt and turn the motor over. When you hear air pressure coming out around the spark plug go until the timing tab says your on top dead center. Then remove the distributor cap and see where the rotor is pointing. Put your #1 spark plug wire at that location and you should be close enough to start the motor. Then you can adjust the timing to the proper location.
That's my method, Eric or one of the other guys can add to that.

WELL I HAD THE LOCATION UNTIL MY SON TURNED OVER THE CAR WHEN I TOLD HIM TO PUT THE KEY ON SO I HAD TO FIGURIE WHERE NUMBER 1 WAS THEN I FOUND I DIOGRAM AND THEY HAD THE NUMBER ONE IN THE BACK LIKE 1:00 LOOKING AT THE CAP FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR.
sO I PUT IT THERE AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP AFTER I PUT THE TIMING ON TDC SORRY FOR THE CAPS AND THANKS ALL SHES RUNNING SMOOTH!!! THE INTAKE IS DONE FINALLY

Good one Ha ha Exactly!!!
That reminds me of a story. I used to be into Dirt Track racing and the guy who used to help me with my car asked if he could bring a friend down into Pit Row with us and I said "ok". Problem was I had to listen to him say all day long "the thing to do........the thing to do.......the thing to do........"
