Is 1-8-7-3-6-5-4-2 the correct firing order for early Olds engines (303, 324)?

And the cylinder numbers are: Look in front of engine:

right bank: 1 3 5 7 left bank: 2 4 6 8

And distributor turns clockwise.

I hope thats correct.....

 

I have no personal knowledge of this engine, but according to these folks, that firing order's right, but you've got the banks reversed (like newer GM engines, #1 is the front Left). You can double check the distributor direction by turning the crankshaft with a wrench if nobody else can confirm it.

They wrote (left bank: 1-3-5-7 right bank 2-4-6-8). I think they mean from
driving direction, from inside the car.

That should be OK.

Crank should turn clockwise (when looking at it from the front), but you can confirm by watching the engine turn while you crank the starter.

... And by convention, when people talk about the left and right sides of the engine, they refer to the sides of the engine on the left and right sides of the car (not left and right when looking at the engine with the hood open) - if you do it the opposite way, tremendous confusion will ensue, possibly ripping a hole in the space-time continuum .
