Bench to buckets seats.

My 72 cutlass came with a bench and I just purchase some buckets and was told that I could not bolt them right in and that I would need the rail that are suppose to be tact welded to the floor. Could anyone give me some input on this.Thanks!!

Look up Fusick part number BSB712 (www.fusick.com). These are the sheet metal pieces that are attached to the floorboard so bucket seats can be attached. As I recall, these pieces were originally tacked into place.

Alex, if you're going to follow through with the bucket seats, are you also planning to install a console? Reason I ask is:
With Console you'll need
* different column
* different speedo gage
* different lighting wiring and trans cable to console
* console mounting brackets and shifter + wood grain overlays

If keeping column shift, the least you'll need is a new carpet. The OEM one for the bench seat does NOT go all the way back to overlap the rear carpet.

Just some thoughts.

Thanks Allan, I'm going to keep the column shift. I still would like to put a console in the car or maybe a custom one with cup holders etc. I'll keep the crapet issue in mind when I am ready to order.

Some of you may or may not know this::::::::::On SOME '72 models (I know a Post Coupe S model forsure because I have one) bucket seat WERE NOT AVAILABLE!!!!!!!
Strange but TRUE!!!!!!!!
Also, Olds built quite a few cars (some were standard) with bucket seats and column shift.

Dave, I was going to say that there were column shift bucket cars out there. And it wasn't just the Cutlass S, this was also on the Supreme that it happened. Apparently if you ordered the buckets, you also had to check off the D55 option to get the console or it would come with column.

X2 on the post coupe bench. The SPECS booklet says A51 was only available on the HT models for an extra cost of 67.00 I wonder if it could have been special ordered though. I've heard of stranger things than that. Certainly a dealer could install the changeover to make the car more saleable.
