engine
To elaborate some, it should be a D block. The heads should have a large A stamped on it. The block should be a reddish orange. It could be a HC or low compression engine. Standard issue was the HC 2bbl carbed engine with single exhaust. The 4bbl was optional as well as the Starfire engine with dual exhaust. All of this will be based on an original engine car.
thanks so much guys.... because by this being my first restore project my brain is scattered trying to find parts for this car and i didn't want to get parts for a motor and didn't no which motor i had.. do you no where i can find the chrome trimmings
who ever had the car before me had a 2bb on the motor with some of the holes plugged off, i found out that it should have 4 bb carb also the block is the same color as the car, baby blue instead of the reddish orange you described

Google "Olds* 411990" and you will see that it is the casting number of an EGR era SMALL BLOCK, so your factory 425 is long gone. That intake will only fit on a small block. The #16 intake is the Turd of all SBO intakes- all the EGR-ness of the smog era in a 50 lbs pkg... whereas the fairly common A4 Aluminum version is plentiful and cheap and does the same thing for 30 lbs less weight.

Try to find a wiki or schooling site that shows where to find the Engine Casting ID- atop timing case, fwd of the intake and aft of the water pump. Scrape the goo away to find the block casting numbers, like "295558 2"- which has a much larger "2" at the end. Find also the huge casting ID CAST INTO the corner of each head, on your left lower corner as you face the engine from aside, Near #1 or #8 cylinder.
Bring us that info.
The blue engine also says smog era. Your picture was probably of the blocked off EGR port, driver side?
So, it might be a 307, 350, or if you are lucky, a 403. If you are REAL lucky, the only Solid Main Web 403 ever to be photographed.
The good news is engine parts are plentiful. Just gotta know what you have there, first.
I have a '65 4-dr for parts, so might have some tidbits; NO sheet metal here in MI though.

The picture shows a lot, newer engine with HEI electronic ignition and EGR and not a 65 carb but it is a 4bbl. Also looks to be a small block as already noted by intake number.

I see your secondary air valves hanging open, for no apparent reason...
might want to rectify that snafu right away.
appears to be a Cheby [side inlet] carb... with no choke hooked up.
Throttle cable / trans cable bracket lying atop the RH valve cover, doing nothing.... you have a bit of work there to get things squared away.

i bought it from some guys at a music shop they had a 1966 2 dr convertable also which they said they were going to take the motor out of mines before i bought it and put it into the 66 .....i no i needed a carb and brake booster from the start and those plugged holes just made me think
I do not have a good feeling about this car.
I believe you Texans have an expression: "Rode hard and put away wet."
I suspect that this car is going to be a true learning experience for you, so why not tell us your name and a little bit about yourself, because I suspect we're all going to become good friends over the next several months, as you peel this onion.
Meanwhile, I'd recommend perusing the Tech section of this site and the Olds manuals on WildAboutCars.com, to get yourself familiarized with everything you're going to have to know

jchavis44, there are a few of us Houston boys on this site. If you need any help please don't hesitate to ask. If you decide to do something with the motor let me know and I'll hook you up with my machine shop. They're in Conroe, Nicken's Brothers Racing Engines...
Several of us are starting to link up at Houston area events, maybe one of these days we'll see you there! Good luck!

Should be able to look under the passenger side manifold and see a giant "403", "350" or "307" stamped into the block if it's a newer EGR engine. I'm betting it's a 307.
I shouldn't say "stamped".....more like protruding numbers.
