As far as I know the only car to get plastic fenders and these were red, was the 67 W30. I do know of a occasional vista cruiser that got black plastic inner fenders, what I don't know is why? Yes there were both plastic and metal fenders(inner) in 67.

I don't know the answer either, but agree about the Vista Cruiser. About 10 years ago I pulled a set of plastic ones from a 1967 Vista Cruiser in a bone yard. John

I have pulled black plastic inner fenders from a 67 Vista and a 4 door. There was no rhyme or reason for which cars got them. It seems they were more prevalent in Vistas though.

Agree. Heard they came from *some* Vistas and 4-doors. I have a pair.
This remains one of those mysteries. I've heard from no one who who know the story behind them, no can I find one bit of documentation (part number, etc.) for them.
What I'd like to do is find out how early or late they came on the cars they came on. Haven't even found out that yet! I have a hunch they were late year.
Any dates, Mike?

No,I didn't get any build dates from the cars I got them from. I've actually had 3 or 4 sets over the years. The 66 OAI car that my buddy had for sale you asked about had a set in it.

From the Dec 66 parts book for 66-7:
67 OAI 398678 RH; 398679 LH.
66 395058, 389717
67 395058, 395059
no listing for black plastic, but I have owned several sets, still have 3 sets.
Pair of steel = 30 lb; plastic = 14 lb. It seems that Olds was experimenting with plastic in some cars and found them satisfactory because all 68 up are plastic, iirc.

Exactly my thoughts, Joe. That's why I'm guessing they were late year usage. I have just about every Parts Catalog around that time and can't find them. (Feb '67, June '67, Dec '68, June '72)

Speaking of plastic parts I have a 66 left front fender extension made of plastic that was pulled from a 7A build date Cutlass. Any thoughts?

I have had a couple of them and I remember they seemed to be made of a rubber type material, not hard plastic. I could be wrong about that though. Is yours hard or a rubber type? I don't remember which side they were either.

Thanks
