a friend is having me finish his 455 engine build. the intake is a 404521 with the PCV port. it has deep pitting around the heat riser. how hard are these manifolds to find and how much would one be if i can find one? my buddy is telling me this particular manifold is hard to find because they were only on 4 speed (non W) big block cars. i have no idea if that is true. i do know it is the only cast iron one i ever seen with the PCV port.

i would put it in the parts wanted section but not sure he will buy another one if i find one.

 

Well what is the car???? Why doesnt he just use a aftermarket intake? I dont ever remember seeing one with the pcv on the intake, im sure that wont be easy to find.

 

it is a 70 442 convertible 4 speed and was ordered originaly with the OAI setup.

The wiki says AT and MT (non W-30), and also on full size cars. Should be common if that is the case. Or the wiki needs updated if it isn't.

 

im almost 100% thats the same intake i have on my 70sx but im not sure about teh pvc port, i think youll be able 2 find 1 for around 100-150, pm 507olds

 

I don't have my factory literature in front of me right now, but that "404521" you are looking at is likely the casting number, not the manifold's part number. In that case, you should be able to find a 404521 casting on just about any 1970 455.

You are right that the PCV nipple was only present on the cast iron manifolds for 4-speed, non-W cars. But all of the castings will have the boss for the nipple. All you have to do is drill the boss and install a nipple. That's what the factory did, and that's what gave that intake manifold a new part number -- but it's not like they then ground off the casting number.

 

thanks for the info. i found another one with no pitting of any kind anywhere but he wants $150 for it. i found a place to surface this one but it will be $75 and then still have pitting on the top where you can see it. i will let my buddy decide what to do. it is his money.
