W-35 rear spoiler question

Could convertible W-30 442's from 70-72 be ordered with a rear wing (spoiler) as a RPO, or was it a "coupe" only option? If not, could it have been dealer-installed and still be considered correct?

From what I understand, the rear spoiler could not be ordered on the convert or supreme. The pedestials for the wing are designed for the angle of the trunk lid on the coupe.

correct - coupes only, but then again I'm sure a few convertible owners had the dealer order it anyway - never seen one on a convertible that wasn't put on later but doesn't mean it didn't happen

Dealers could and would do almost anything to sell the car. So yes, it's possible. Correct is another thing. If it's not correct, then neither are Yenko's.

That's an interesting point that I have been making for a while. What's the difference between a non-factory engine being installed in Yenko's garage vs. in my garage? That's why personally I believe that "original" or "correct" should mean "from the factory". Now, later Yenkos DID have factory-installed motors, but if you call dealer-installed parts "original" then that opens the floodgates. What about the Rallye 350s discussed in a recent thread that were repainted and had chrome bumpers installed by Berejik? Are those "original" or "correct"? If not, how is that different from a dealer-installed wing?

Of course! And that is why I've been clamoring for years about terminology in the classic car hobby.
The following are just examples of terms that mean *nothing* unless defined:
correct
original
numbers matching
restored
And yet they are used constantly like there *is* some universal definition! *Not*
There is an editorial in this month's issue of Hemming's Classic Car about this very thing with the word "original".

I think the Yenko is a poor comparison.

Factory literature says the spoiler was not available on the ragtop. Factory production documents support this. IF a spoiler was installed at the dealer, one should have documentation that it was dealer-installed. Otherwise, it's just another ragtop with that annoying spoiler.

I happen to like my annoying spoiler on my vert, Don't really care if it was for a hardtop only!
