The car should have come with a 425 as it is a Delta and not a Delmont. There were no 455's or F blocks in 1967 so the engine is not original and either is the air breather.

 

I sent him some information so hopefully he runs with it, but who knows.

 

I saw that car, and I noticed the "original" 455 engine comment, too. I've sent him a message. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Maybe if enough people point out the error, he'll fix it. He makes a big deal out of how it's had the same owner since '73. Fine. Couldn't that person have changed the engine between then and now?

It is a nice-looking car, but I'm curious as to what the dash looks like under the lemons-to-lemonade dashpad. The only reason to put one of those on is to cover up cracks.

No sense argue-ing with a seller who knows it all, but we know the Jetstar 88's had the 330 in 64 65 and 66 and in 67 the Jetstar was dropped for the Delmont and there is a reason some had the chrome 425 badges on the front fenders. That was to state it had something bigger than the standard 330.

 

I live 15 minutes away, if anyone needs me to take a peek at it. I am laid up with a broken collar bone, so I cant crawl around it with a fine tooth comb, but I can check numbers and general condition if someone is seriously interested.

 

RPO codes *can* mean different things different year. In 1967, L74 is a 365 hp 425. In '68, the L74 was a 310hp 350.


I know what GM *didn't* do. They didn't put a 455 in a '67 that was built the 3rd week of November 1966, never mind what the build sheet says even. The seller is full of it. Simply means you can't trust *anything* he says. If he wants to argue with me, he better not bring a knife to a gun fight

 

You could crush him with all your GM literature wmachine.

He's a used car salesman, what do you expect?? That he would admit a mistake on his part that may cut down value or interest in something he is trying to sell? I want to see wmachine kick his ***!

 

one thing GM did do was carry over remaining parts to the next year till inventory was gone. I dont personally know of any cars with parts on them from an upcoming year though. it was tough enough for them to have parts ready in time for model changes.

 

I did write to him:
"That engine is correctly identified as a 455, and there is absolutely no way that is the original engine. 455s did not come out until 1968 and don't try to tell me that it could possibly be a late build with a 455, because that car was built in the 3rd week of November 1966. The engine *has* been replaced."

His answer:
"Thanks for your interest"

Yes, parts from the upcoming years have been know to be used in the previous year's models. But that is very rare. For example, I personally know of a late July built '65 442 that had B-heads on it. They definitely were original and had a '65 engine unit number on it.

So in this case, this charlatan dealer had a little bit of knowledge (knife) and ran into me waiting with a library (gun).

 

Yeah I saw the different things listed, but took the high compression V8 as a 330 in 66 and 67 due to it being the 330 previous and the 350 later.

 

I can't tell you how many times I've put the "***" in assume!

 

This is why I dis-trust salesmen and used car salesmen in particular. I bet if you were to go see the car in person and talk to the guy he would be dressed like a grease-ball used car salesman too. I hate those guys. Did I say I hate those guys yet? Sheeesh!!!!!
