Carb return spring

O.K. so I put my Quadrajet back on my '71 Supreme 350. Doing a test drive, and it doesn't slow down after letting off the gas, doesn't matter what speed on doing, 30, 40, 60 mph. Tap the throttle she comes down. Touch it again, and away we go! This is on a 15 mile drive, so she's warmed up. I'm thinking return spring, then I'm thinking "What return spring!" It did not have one when I took it off, so now need one, which weight? Should it be color coded for the proper tension? Does anyone have a good photo showing it on the carb? Thanks.

Carb return spring Part.II (getting old Part 1). So I go and buy a new spring, and vaccum lines, as I figure I might as well replace them while I'm under there. Get home, put new spring on, (I just don't even remember removing the old one), decide to check where I put the parts when I pulled the carb, nothing there. Now it's time to replace vaccum lines, get them all replaced, stand back to admire my handy work...and whats that on the intake below the shiny new throttle return spring? why, it's the old one! Iv'e got a spare now, Sigh, it's oldtimers for me!

When putting my 455 together I went with a dual return spring setup. I thought of it as cheap insurance.

I am a fan of the dual spring also had this happen when the old frayed accelerator cable broke at full throttle what a thrill.

The sad part is, being I had not pulled a carb in a long time, I took digital photos just in case, and printed them out, had 'em setting in the garage. Of course, they showed the spring in all it's glory.
