No, I don't rely on the map because there are lots of people who don't want to post their location on the net.

You're right, it does look new which is why I'm interested in it. The auction says 999999 miles, but looking at the condition outside, inside, engine bay, I would tend to believe the 37377 miles showing on the odometer is right. I'm emailing for more pics of the bottom of the car and any documentation. Even the bottom of the doors and the front of the sill plate area looks excellent from what I can see.

Anyone want to comment on the price? I don't know the reserve, but the buy it now doesn't look all that outrageous. Only problem I have is buying something from a dealer without having a personal rep to validate their claims.

yeah, can't rely on what they say....you should be able to find a collector in that area by posting on various websites...wouldn't have to be an Olds site....there's V8Buick, corvetteforums, etc....for this car I would think "matching numbers" isn't that important (tho the car most certainly IS #s)..condition is the key.

as for price: my gut tells me that since it's a car dealer selling...it's market up a lot. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get it for 6500.

Thx VB. To complicate matters, if I bought this car I need to go through cross border paperwork and arranging for shipping. I've seen higher mileage similar vintage cars going for the low teens and some as high as mid twenties. Kinda a little curious on why you think the car is marked up?

only because it is a dealer...who's sole mission is to make as big a profit as possible. why wouldn't he mark it up a lot ?

I bet he got the car for cheap.

Well, I can't argue with that logic. It's solid as a rock. I guess the question is more how much of a profit. Still waiting to hear back from him. But if the pics are any indication of the car's true quality and presentation, IMO it would be worth every penny.

As a forehand thought, does anyone have any good leads on cross border car carriers?

Holy crap Jeffrey!! When I started reading your post I almost died. AWFUL?? I started to think I had missed something really obvious....

I talked to my wife about this car. Gave her a detailed description: "It's a big car that's white on the outside and red inside. Got AC and it's nice to ride in on long trips" So far she hasn't said no.

Leave it at your place? Hmmm. Could do as long as you promise to drive it once in awhile. Only problem is it's white and.... oh yeah , I forgot. You like big white Oldsmobiles! It would be cool to come down in the winters for visits and have a car on standby though. Come to think of it, not a bad idea. It's so big I could live in that thing and not have to worry about a vacation home

I'm quite serious about spending the $$$ on this one. It would be the first time I've spent that kind of money over the net though. Makes me a little nervous, especially since I can't go touch it in person and test drive it. I've heard of too many scams where the car that's pictured doesn't even belong to the seller. I've asked for pics of the title, and maintenance records etc plus undercarriage and detail pics. Forgot to ask if it's been repainted. Crap! I'll get on that as soon as he sends back the requested info. I'll post it for you guys to keep up with.

I still havent heard back from anyone in the general area who could check it out.

I have been watching that car for some time now - it's perfect! (for me) but I can not can not buy anything right now - Obama just saved my house so I have to make mortgage pmts now

but it is beautiful (needs a factory radio though)

and so glad it does not have a fuel monitor - one less rocket on the dash, and the gas gauge is just fine as a fuel monitor - step on the gas and watch it sink.

Buy it!!!

That thing is beautiful Allan. I hope you buy it if it as nice as it appears. To me it seems like a great deal even at the asking price (think of what kind of high mileage, crappy, used Japanese car you would have to spend more for!). Keep us updated when you hear back from them. I still always think it's a good idea to have someone look in person if you can find somebody close to help you out. Good luck!

Jeffrey, where have you been watching it? You're not one of those perverts who lurks around car dealerships waiting for Blue hairs to trade their vintage dream machines in on a new model are ya?

Seriously, where was it you saw this car before? What info do you have on it that you could pass along. Also, good eye with the "non factory" radio. Everything else on that car looks absolutely mint! The doors, panels, dash, trim, body, bumpers/chrome, glass, upholstery....I don't think they had the fuel monitor until 1976? Trust me, I am having anxiety pains about wanting this car. I really want it....but I know there will always be another one somewhere if I can't a solid confirmation on the car.

I know that I need to get cross border transfer docs from USA to Canada. I also need to find out how this baby would be insured while it still is in the States and in transit. Lots to do and think about.

PS It won't fit in my garage either!!!

I been watching it on eBay - I have a saved search for 197* Olds* (1 of 25) that I get emails on every day, mainly to watch selling prices, but my original master plan was to have 1 of every model 75/76 so I am always on the lookout for a Cutlass (want a 76 Salon) and a Ninety-Eight (never a 98)

I have to look @ the pics again, I thought I remembered a flaw besides the stereo

75 was the 1st year for that awful gas meter hated that had it in a Seville with yellow and green lights - put me in the hospital for exhaustion in 81

no cornering lights (wtf is it a Chevy???)
dents LR
ghetto heater hoses
what is UP with the A/C compressor sticker? Walmart???
interior is lovely but where are the clear plastic shoulder belt tension relievers???
perfect steering wheel - nice
original mats - impressive
optional tripmeter, sweet
no litter bin
no delay wipers
no twilight sentinel
pretty unused spare but highly impractical in case of a blowout
what's up with that wiring criss-crossing the trunk all helter-skelter???

other than that, a dream car

offer him USD$4,500 delivered

Also check to see if you need a yacht operator license and/or pass a USCG safety class...those could be expensive and delay things.

Wish it was little closer I would go look at it if I had some extra time. London is about three hours from my house. From the pics it does look like a nice car.

Good luck Allan. PM W30-Dan he lives a little closer to London, KY.

No worries. 2nd star to the right and straight on till morning right? Might also need a mooring thingy. Do I have to put green and red lights on the side to show which side to pass on? NO! Wait, I'll be doing all the passing....

Thanks Andy. I'll send him one and find out what's up. I still haven't heard back from the seller about where in London it is. Don't know if they check email, but hopefully I'll hear back soon. Also asked for more pics of the underside of the chassis. Still nothing. I'll keep the thread updated when I find out.

Jeffrey, I also note that 75 appears to be the year that Ninety Eights went to the rectangular headlights. Deltas still have the round 4 lamps system. The cornering lights apparently didn't come into the Ninety Eight until 76 when the front bumper was redone. That seems to be why the 75 models don't have cornering lights on the front fenders. I looked at a lot of them on the web recently. Also found quite a few survivor 2 door and 4 doors in remarkable shape, but some of them just popped red flags right away because of some of the small details. I also haven't seen the garbage bin (usually on the front right side) on very many 75's.

thx Andy. pm sent to W30-Dan. I went on Google virtual map and had a look at the lot. Seems pretty big. Wow, there's some huge houses down there! What I wouldn't give for a lot the size of those ones.

Was the passenger side chrome mirror an option? I see it on most of the other 75s I've looked at.

Jeffrey,
Was just visiting NADA pricing on this car. They list a 4 door Luxury Sedan (cheaper) and the 4 door Regency (more $$). What is the difference? FYI they list a car with near perfect as only being 4255.00 so your original suggestion of 4500 delivered is pretty close. I doubt that they will deliver across intl border for only 250. Heck even I wouldn't do that. Shipping is probably going to be close to a grand.

The last time I was in London, KY was around 20 years ago. I looked up info on the town I guess it has doubled in size since then. Appears the population is around 8,000 people now. Still a lot smaller then what I'm use too.

Allan, Ask the dealer to give you an honest description and back it up with a return plane ticket. Make sure the ticket doesn't fly you to Edmonton, KY.

Tell them that you will buy the car for x amount of dollars if the car is as described. If they agree ask them to buy and send you a return ticket to back up what they are telling you. If they accept they send you the ticket. You fly in and check it out and if you find that they represented the car accurately, you buy the car off them for the agreed upon price. If they refuse to send a ticket...fogetaboudit.

If you go and they lied, you see the car for what it is and use their ticket and fly home. They loose a sale for being untruthful and are out the cost of the plane ticket. You loose time but are compensated by getting to see a little bit of TN. See if they go for it.

Yeah you can go to KY and see the world. We have London, Paris, Bagdad, even a place called Monkey's Eyebrow. Ken has a great idea. That link I gave has the phone number. Good Luck

I'm not sure, but I'm thinking that Martins is a rebuilder. Buys and sells salvage title vehicles, and rebuilds werecks. Not to say that this is one, but I'm pretty sure they do. Look them up on the Internet.

Ken, I've asked him to for extra information and pictures. So far he's been vague and hasn't provided the pictures. I'll give him a little longer. The feeling I'm getting from the correspondence is he thinks I've already bought the car so come down and get it.

Wow! I was looking for someone in the area a while back. Hang tough for a bit. I want to see how the dealer handles my previous requests b4 I go for it.

Good information. I don't know if CARFAX will report on this age of vehicles. How would I be able to find out if this was in fact a salvage vehicle? Some areas of it do look too good to be true, which is what raised a red flag up front. That's why I wanted extra info and pics from him. I also wanted a compression test on the engine. So far, nothing. Don't know how you can find interior trim like that for the big cars in such good condition on a rebuild and still sell for less than 8000.

I would doubt that car is a rebuilt wreck. You would have to have parts car to to rebuild it. It wouldn't be as nice as the pics make it look. Most people don't rebuild wrecks that are more then 5-6 years old, because it will cost more to fix them then you can buy a used car for.

That how some of the good old boys sell cars down here. Most of the time I pass when I talk to people like this, but I think the car is worth it. Sounds like you have a plan, stick to it. I hope it works out for you. That is a nice looking car and the price is good.
