OE vs. OG air cleaner

Is a 442 air cleaner and OG? Is the regular air cleaner an OE? What is the dif between a 68 and a 69. I think its square vs round hole T? F?

Both are '68 (not '69) air cleaners.
OE is a red 4-bbl 350 (L74) unit
OG is a red 4-bbl 400 (L77) 442 unit

The difference from '68 to '69 is the hole for the line that goes to the valve cover is on the passenger side on your '69, but on the drivers side in '68. And yes, the snorkel is the same for both years.
(You knew I was coming with this info, right?)

Thanks W, I had a idea you might be the one to know.

I was told there is an ever so slight difference in the snorkles of 68/69 400 air cleaners . No?

Not that I know of. But with the other differences between the 2, I've never compared the snorkels on a microscopic level.

So OR on the 350, OS on the 400 [442] in 69. Which came on the 455, OR or OS? or on the Toro 455?

See where I'm going with this?

If the 69 H/O came with the 455. Was it the 400 [442] base air cleaner or the 350/455 air cleaner base.

I happen to believe it was the 400/442 base. But I just wanted to be sure.

Actually, the OS code is for the '69 455s too.

So yes, it is safe to presume same as the 442. Definitely not the same as the 350.

So the 442 OS air cleaner could have been on not only a 400/442 but also on a land yacht 455?

I'm reaching back here to another thread where you enlightened me about the difference between a 69 442 air cleaner [which I will now call OS] vs. the OR air cleaner the gentleman had for sale [mistakenly for sale as a "442" air cleaner]

If I am correct in summory

69 400 and 455 and Toro = OS
69 350 = OR

"W" have I got it right? F-I-N-A-L-L-Y?

Many thanks for your patience

69 400 and 455 and Toro = OS
69 350 FOUR BARREL= OR

Different tins involved, but that is what the books says the assemblies are. I must admit I find it odd that the Toro ones are the same, but I can't say that they aren't. I do know my '69 Highway Patrol Delta 88 455 *is* the same as a 442.

The snorkel on a '68 442 is different than a '69 442 in that the vacuum motor on the snorkel is farther out on a '69 ...I think it was to give more clearance by the valve cover for the heater hose and compressor if AC equipped...also the '69 snorkel has slight corners parallel on the edges of the inlet snorkel

I was thinking size-wise, forgot to mention the difference in the vacuum pot location.
Okay what is the "slight corners parallel on the edges of the inlet snorkel"?

'68 has smooth rounded corners on the snorkel and '69 has crease along the four edges on the snorkel ...check the pic that you posted
