I am looking for feedback on Grundy Insurance. I have American Collectors and it seems they increase premiums every year. I checked Hagarty and they are always more. J.C. Taylor is about what I am paying now. Thanks Guys

I’ve had Grundy for 29 years. I pay my Grundy premium to “The Philadelphia Indemnity Insurance Company”. The premiums have increased over time but I think it’s largely been due to inflation and the car’s increase in value over time. Like most of the classic car insurance out there the cost is directly related to the insured value. They’ve automatically increased the value over the years from the original agreed value. My cost hasn’t gone up dramatically over the years. It’s always seemed reasonable and in line with the other companies the few times I’ve compared them. I’ve never had to file a claim fortunately so I can’t speak to that.
i would be curious about folks claims experience with Grundy and the other insurance companies. To me that’s the most critical variable.

I've had Hagerty for several years, and I've never had an issue with them when it comes to claims. Case in point, I filed a claim back in Oct '22 because my vinyl top was starting to bubble up due to aging, and they didn't give me any pushback. They just said they would cover the removal, the purchase of a new top, and installation. Any bodywork would be my dime...fair enough. Luckily, I had no bodywork to be done, so it was all covered. Then, after the top was done, I was driving home from work one day shortly after, and every single piece of the windshield trim blew off. I found an OEM set on ebay, bought it and filed a claim for that, and they sent me a re imbursment check.
I pay $36 a month for an appraised value policy of $35,500, and I couldn't be happier.

I've had Grundy for nearly 20 years albeit never had a claim under their policy.
As to premiums, they've always been relatively low and the agreed value amounts automatically increase annually.
This year, even as the value amount increased, the premium decreased - a double win!

I am also curious if anyone with Grundy has experience with actually filing a claim. I have thought about switching from Hagerty, but I worry what could happen if I need to file a claim. Cheaper insurace (Grundy vs Hagerty) is a waist of money if they will not cover the policy when you need them. I've had experience filing a claim with Hagerty and I'll agree they are pretty good. About 10 years ago I was driving a 64 Impala to my brother's house. While making a right turn onto his street, a 17 year old girl hit me from behind doing about 40 MPH the colision totaled the car. The girl's insurance started giving the run around despite the fact that she rear-ended me. Hagerty covered the car for the agreed value and then went after her insurance to recover their cost.
I have had Grundy for 11 years. No Issues a few small increases. I have had two minor claims. Broke a T3 bulb rock strike and Grundy paid for a full set. I dropped a 18v battery pack from a cordless impact on the hood. They paid all claims within a week.

They also cover my Alero and Hagerty would not!
$449 for 30k coverage for a year.

So nobody ever really brings this up with classic insurance threads but also consider the Liability side of the policy when choosing a company.
I'm already a commercial liability adjuster by profession thus also fluently familiar with the aspects of the 'at-fault' scenarios which can arise.
But for those who don't have direct claim handling experience, it can get dicey being on the wrong end of one, so I always recommend where possible, trying to speak directly with an agent of any company being considered for a coverage purchase, to gauge how proficiently the carrier would potentially handle an at-fault loss on your behalf,
Or better yet, with classic car owners who have had 'at-faults' to see how diligently their interests were addressed and protected.
Takes nothing to be sued these days, trust me - PI attorneys today literally turn every fender-bender into traumatic brain injury cases where the at-fault driver's policy has more than $100lk liability limits.

Currently paying $1355 for $115K coverage across 3 cars per year.
In 2010 at an RM auction the wind got hold of the tents. My buddy was involved in this debacle. He told me all the insurance companies were down there writing checks. He had a Hemi something or other at the auction.

Understood.. My point is the information referenced on Hagerty's website is general and is not Hagerty's specific policy. The policy will be specific, detailed and clear, and much more restrictive. I hope this helps.
Grundy is the originator of these type of insurance policies. Companies like Hagerty jumped on the bandwagon. And managed to get on everybody's radar with excellent marketing. Think of it like Holley and Edelbrock when it comes to carburetors. Holley is a carb specialist, Edelbrock is a intake manifold specialist. But in the 1980s Edelbrock said lets make a shiny pretty carburetor that's going to sell like crazy because it looks great. Even though Holley is still king of the hill in performance. And it worked. Coincidentally Hagerty also started in the 1980s. Meanwhile Grundy has been around since 1947.
Grundy is wonderful !
I've had 2 claims with them over a twenty year period or so. 2 different vehicles. Both were settled quickly and amicably. The latest of which was my current 69. The adjuster rendered her a total loss. She initially cost me 5500. I had her insured for 11,000. The 11,000 was my request, but the adjuster told me it was too low after seeing her in person. And implied I should have requested a higher amount... In any case I was offered a chance to buy her back at auction but that process entailed her being given a salvage title. Plus whatever price she ended up to. Or they offered me to buy her back for 1000 on the spot, I never lose possession of the car and she never gains a salvage title.
It was a no brainer for me as I had just spent 1000 on wheels alone a few months before she got totalled. And she still ran and drove as always. The engine by itself was worth 1000 to me. The 10,000 balance was sent to me shortly after reaching the agreement with them over the phone.
P.S. no mileage limitation with regular plates...

I dropped Hagerty after I fought tooth and nail to get them to cover a $60 claim on the exhaust tips on my 71 98. Check out post #21 here for a synopsis.

I use American Collector's, I haven't ever had Grundy.

I've had Grundy for 22 years. I've not had any claims. I can use a local agent for payment and communication.
The premium has changed just a bit and they have adjusted the value.
I had to get a professional appraisal in the beginning because I wanted a rich valuation (for an unloved car), which they granted.
