Olds service manuals at local auction

Hey Gang...

I was taking a gander through the listings at a nearby small auction house, and see that they have A LOT of original service manuals for Oldsmobile, Buick, Chevy and GM truck. Not really a car-stuff auction, so they will likely go cheap! Should I be snapping all of these books up?

These are JUST the Olds books...there are probably another 20 listings for other brands

I'd seriously consider this, you could easily sell them here cheaply at $25 a pop and make a good return, assuming you could get them under $5 each.

Buy the ones you need, and leave the other deals for someone who needs them.

Why? If no one else knows about them, they may not sell and end up being thrown away.

We have a no politics policy here, save it for other sites.

I've got enough on my plate these days to not want to bother getting into the used book business. That being said, if any of you guys want any of those books, I would be willing to bid for you and ship them for the actual cost of postage.

Guess you never buy things. Everyone is entitled to make a few bucks for their time and efforts.

Notice I said sell them cheaply. I have to assume you've never seen the prices these go for on those other sites.

Fair enough, I get it yeah. I just overreacted a bit, perhaps, to what I felt was taking advantage of the great people of this forum. I think I have a different mindset to most in that I love to collaborate freely and don't think in terms of trying to make some money off it.

You may not have to do this.

People can see for themselves the items at the auction's website. It says that they will ship items, but it doesn't say if they ship outside of Canada.

This is what it says. I assume that there's no reason for them not to ship anywhere in the world if the buyer is paying the shipping cost.

‘Believe me when I say this, the parts I have bought off this forum from the great people of the forum have all made money on me. I have no problem with that. If the price is what I feel is fair then I couldn’t care less what they paid for it. And I have made money off parts I have sold as well.. capitalism, best thing to keep classic parts flowing.

Nice score!
That set of 1964 service manuals alone are pricey and hard to find.

Thanks, Charlie! Yeah, that's what I figured as well - ended up paying $20 for them. It will be a nice companion to my Ninety Eight.

Wow, $20 was cheap.
Some vendors are asking over $100 for a set of originals on E-Bay.

As is ALWAYS the case on eBay, asking does not equal selling.
5 of these original 1964 sets have sold in the past 90 days - $40, $50, $50, $50, $65. God Bless the Free Market.
In my opinion, if you're restoring a '64 Cutlass, or any car for that matter, these manuals are invaluable.
BTW, I was the competition for that set you got at $20, which was indeed a great deal.
But I did manage to pick up some of the other manuals from that auction - Buick, Chevy, Olds and Generic.
Some I'll use, some I'll resell.

No problem, Brother. Thanks for not bidding me up any higher! I'm glad that you got some of the other manuals. I would hate to think that they would get tossed if nobody bid on them. My 64 is a finished car, BUT the manuals are great for those little jobs down the road. They have step-by-step instructions with photos for all the tasks.

The other book that I got, the 62-71 Part Catalogue, is also very neat! LOTS of exploded parts diagrams for cars from 1958 to 1971.

Hey Shermanpup...

I didn't buy all the manuals that they had. I made that offer to purchase and ship any manuals BEFORE the end of the auction. They had A LOT of books, but I just bought the ones I needed.

Thanks!

Ty
