I am thinking about selling my 83 hurst,,,but in torn,,I dont know if I should, I inherterted from my father. I am racking my brain,,would dad want me to sell it so I can pay bills and not loose my house? Or would he hate me fir selling,,,

 

I don't think your father would want you to loose your house. Was it a project that you completed together?

 

What dollar amount do you think it's worth?
Is it in showroom condition or is it a #4 condition car? The showroom car will get you out of debt at least temporarily.
If it's a condition #4 car keep it for the sentimental value as the sale would not put you that much farther ahead.

 

Things depend on how much the debt is and what the car is worth. You have to fix whatever caused the problem or you will be right back where you are now with no car to sell.

 

At this point I doubt your dad really cares. Do what you have to do to keep your house.

 

Why would this even be a question? We need to do what we need to do to keep our heads above water. If that means you have no other alternatives but to sell the car, then sell the car.

 

This. It is exactly what I had to do with my 66 442 hardtop back in the day. It stung a little at first, but it had to be done. No regrets.

I'm getting all choked up before even saying anything. this kills me but times are really hard and my family being gone I have nobody to really help me financially. My diagnosis has become worse and I have been diagnosed with non epileptic psychogenic seizures on top of my depression and anxiety PTSD. Needless to say doctors took me off work. I have been fighting dad I for 6 years.( I guess,me saying that is me trying to justify my soon to be action). It's either keep the hurst and lose my house because of back due property taxes. Or sell the hurst and feel like I let my dad down. If he were still alive he would more than disown me. I'm sure most of you can relate when I say this car( I named it " Monte" since all ask me if it's a montey carlo.) My dad loved this car. It's been in my life for 40 years. It's numbers matching, all form. And if it have a fresh clear coat she would be mint with 57,xxx miles and has been garage kept her whole life. Someone tell me how I'm suppose to be ok with this. I've tried everything I can think of to get property taxes paid and keep Monte. I am just sick to my stomach. This car is rare..not many like it in this condition . Someone help me..please someone tell me there is magic and there I s financial assistance for an illinois homeowner and back property taxes fairy..or so type of miracle...

There is no reason to start another thread. Again, if selling the car is what needs to be done and that will get you out of your hole, then sell the car. If that won't get you out of your hole then keep the car and let the property go if you can't sell it. I know it sounds kind of harsh, but those are the choices.

 

As Eric stated above ^^ we're met w/ hard choices in life. No disrespect about being a double-jointed midget (you stated this yourself); but yes, we had a member (now banned) some time ago constantly discussing herself as being a midget &/or a dwarf & creating field a day of sorts. The car is just a "thing", although sometimes it's hard to think of it like that due to emotional attachment. Your welfare is more important than hanging onto a "thing".

If you sell it, will there be enough to pay off your back taxes and will you be able to keep up financially moving forward, or would you just be putting off the inevitable for a few more weeks/months/years? Is the real problem that you can't afford to keep the house anyways? Can you sell the house and rent instead?

Owning a classic car can be a money drain in itself as well as a source of anxiety when it needs work you're not able to do. All things being equal, if you're short on funds already can you afford to spend anything on maintaining/repairing/refreshing this car now or in the foreseeable future?

It may have been your father's pride and joy, but would he put it before your physical and mental health and financial well being? I know I wouldn't feel that way about any of my cars and my daughters if they were in dire circumstances.

We had a guy in our club that had some medical bills he had to pay. He sold his car to another club member. He recently bought it back. Maybe they had an agreement that he could buy at back at some predetermined price. I don't know the details. If you have a friend or coworker that would like to have the car, maybe you could work out such an agreement. In any event, separate yourself from the emotion of the car. You can't live in the car. I guarantee your dad would want you to sell the car and keep your house. Of course, you could sell the house and the taxes would be paid at closing.

I apologize for posting another thread I didn't really know what I was doing. Not to worry it will north happening again. This is my goodbye. Guess I'm too sensitive for ya'll. Thanks to those who did show compassion. As far as " no need posting another thread " you guys might want to be a little bit easier on newbies.

 

I am trying to fix the problem that caused my financial situation. However my diagnosis is lifelong.

 

Get your house refinanced and stretch out the payments for years which will get you a much lower monthly payment that you can afford. Who cares if you don't get it paid off before you die. Include at the closing money to payoff the back taxes and any extra money if you need it. Not sure if it's providing you have some equity built up in the house. This way you can get the taxes paid, have more money for living each month and you can get to keep the car. Also, go to your town hall and inquire about discounts available to low income homeowners. I receive a $1,300 discount on my taxes every year and a lower rate for my utilities and a small amount of food stamps.

Then take a home equity loan in the amount you need and then pay it off as you are able to. The banks don't care because they're making money again.

 

You know your situation better than us and remember decisions have consequences...
