We cut open some filters, we also did two Motorcraft filters, which were also well made inside, didn't take pics. I bought some of A Premium Chinese made EOF2PH25-C filters. I was told not to cheap out on filters. Their filters box is wrapped in black plastic, then clear plastic on the whole filter with good installation instructions. The Chinese filter canister is .0100" thicker, .0375" vs .0275". A Premium 8 holes vs bigger 6 holes on the Wix 51258. Both synthetic blend media with similar miles, not many as to doing very short miles with the new 350. The other I cut open was the Motomaster OE spec was around 10,000 km or slightly less on my Daughter's Edge. Rock Auto is the place I will be buying any brand name filters for the most part. If you can get the A Premium filters for a good price, It was equal to the Wix on Rock Auto, don't hesitate. Shipping is the great equalizer for Rock Auto in Canada.

The Purolator Boss was highest rated filter in an independent test on YouTube. I was disappointed with the Baldwin's performance compared to Wix. It flowed way more but fell short on actual filtration. I have heard issues with some issues with Wix lately. I see Napa no longer carries the Platinum, there version of the XP. Their economy line in Chinese made, I believe and is shorter for Olds. Curious about if the Gold has changed. Every other spec is there for the A Premium filters but didn't see a micron rating.
I have the Purolator L30005 on my 72's 455. Big and red.

Spoke to Purolator. The L30005 is a physically bigger filter listed as matching up to our 67 engines. However, it's just commonization going further forward, this one works through at least 72, as in, will it bolt up, and will it fit. It is also not made in One or Boss lines.
It is 21 micron filtration. 9 to 11 gpm, and 96.5% efficient at 30 microns.

That is the issue, the better filters are not available in the larger canister size. Talking not just this size but the 51258 size as well.
Other than the Orange can of doom and Tough Guard from Fram, the rest are pretty similar, quality wise. Even Hyundai makes a quality oil filter in house, bought some for my Daughter's Elantra. All the cheap filters we can buy here are different painted copies of the terrible base Fram filter. Except for the economy Napa which I believe is similar to these filters, made in China $7.99, $10 cheaper than the 1258. The specs have the same diameter as this filter and Wix 51258 but shorter for some reason. I like the largest filter possible. Napa is an hour drive, there and back for me. Yeah, Rock Auto with shipping, if I don't get charged brokerage fees would have been the same price as these Chinese filters from Amazon. After opening them up, not scared to run them, no real red flags. I did dent the Chinese filter removing it, maybe I was strong hand tightening it that day. But then saw the Chinese filter has a much thicker can. I will be ordering some Wix XP for my Challenger from Rock Auto. The Wix XP cartridge filter almost looks too nice to put oil in, pure white, really fine robust media, last one was made in Korea. I have some Purolator Pure One cartridge filters to use up, looks like shitty cardboard in comparison, synthetic blend, just not as nice but were like $5 to $8 off Amazon, now $12 to $15.

Wix 51258- 3.660" diameter, 4.338" long,.200 gasket, enhanced cellouse media, 21 nominal micron rating, 99% efficient at 23 microns.
APremium-3.781 diameter, 4.047" long,.203 gasket, synthetic blend media, 99% efficiency and 10,000 mile rating.
Napa Proformer-3.66" diameter, 3.77" long,.200 gasket, cellouse media and a 5,000 mile rating with 96% efficiency as small as 20 microns. Food for thought.
