1962 Starfire center console
Hey, i have a 61 Starfire console in my 61 Dynamic and it was cracked in multiple places. I used a clear two part epoxy to repair mine but i think fiberglass would work fine. I've considered "plating" mine on the inside with some aluminum sheet (.062) cut to size and epoxied in place to give it some rigidity. I've just started heavily modifying mine to hold 3 more gauges and a Winters auto shifter (going TH400). 60+ year old plastic is thin and brittle!
I have already done extensive repairs on my console using the clear epoxy which worked well, however knowing the age and abuse a console can go through I am going to get some fiberglass cloth, resin and harder and put a layer on the whole inside of the console. I think that this will strengthen the whole console. Your thoughts.
.062 aluminum seems a little much. I would think that under. 040 would be sufficient.
