Just went through this as part of a project on my ‘68 to fix some dashboard electrical mods by the PO. If going with a stock Delco radio, you want to grab a new “Special Rectangle” speaker from Electro-Tech (turnswitch is their web URL). This will get you the correct shape to fit the dash as well as the 10 ohm impedance speaker you need for the original radio. Dummy me forgot about this when I installed an original AM-FM setup and hooked it up to the modern speakers installed into my original frame (see photo) blowing the output circuit of my radio. Had to replace the output transistor (large can one in the heat sink of the radio) after scoring a couple off eBay. Make sure you have the Oldsmobile specific speaker mounting bracket to put the new speaker in the dash. Be prepared to use some profanity and for some scrapped hands to work with the absolute PITA ‘68-9 dash design, especially if you have an AC car. The new owner of Electro-Tech is super helpful with advice and info on their products.

Note the speaker shape and seller info. Great quality USA made product.

Modern speakers installed into the old original speaker housing.

Good luck, hope this helps. PM me if you have any additional questions I might help with.
