new glass
I got a new driver door glass for my 65 Cutlass, from Auto city classics. After install and cleaning all the fingerprints, looking at it from the side I could see a series of swirl marks the width and height of the window. I called Auto city, and the guy on the phone said this was called "Modeling". I asked if this was typical, or did I get a bad piece. He said that's the way it is, that's how the glass cools when it's made. Needless to say, I took it out and sent it back. Has anybody else ever heard of this "modeling" term? Anywhere else to try? Thanks.
It's called "mottling"......sort of a blotchy type appearance in whatever you're referring to (metallic car paints, the tint in the glass, etc).
Don't even know if it would show up in a photograph. May depend on what type of lighting it's viewed in....sun, overcast, inside garage lighting, etc.
I've seen it quite a bit in the new replacement glass. Can't tell you how common or uncommon it is on the new glass.....it's not like I kept a list of cars with new glass that I saw it on.

Thanks for the replies, I tried taking pics but couldn't pic up what I was seeing. "Mottling" it's called? I thought the guy was just blowin' smoke. Sent it back, we'll see how it goes...
Apparently Auto City Glass continues having quality issues. During the pandemic I ordered a windshield and two glass pieces for the doors on my 70 442. No problem whatsoever with the windshield and driver window. Unfortunately, the passenger window glass had the wrong curve to it--would not fit. They sent a replacement piece of glass and it had the same issue. The guy told me the same thing: "That's the way it is."
They refunded my money for the bad piece of glass.
