Question 72 Cutlass Supreme

Looking for information on Headers that will fit my 72 Cutlass Supreme convertible.
I removed my stock 350 rocket and installed a 1971 Toronado 455 and a turbo 400 tranny.
I cannot find headers that will correctly fit my application. Any help in this matter will be much appreciated.
Thanks

The disclaimer that listed headers will not fit a Cutlass Supreme is probably the oldest myth in the Oldsmobile world. For some reason, manufactures have refused to remove it. From the firewall forward, the Cutlass Supreme is exactly the same as the Cutlass S. Others can speak up about which headers fit the best. You will get a number of responses confirming the myth.

A great way to learn some information on this forum is to use the 'Search Threads' function located on the RH top corner of every thread on this site. Like anything, it requires you to work on reading what others have done. Review the threads pertaining to headers. You'll find a plethora of information (on your own) - some SBO some BBO. You can search by sub-forum or the entire forum. Define your searches accordingly.

Just look up a 1972 442 with a 455 engine to avoid any hassles.

Thanks Fun71.
What a headache trying to find a pair of headers to fit a classic Olds. One would think you could find a pair on almost any street corner, or at least info on how to obtain a set. It might be a battle, but in the end, a battle I plan to win. Cutty needs some pipes, lol.
Thanks to all.

If you can find the Chinese stainless full length headers on Ebay, they are very high quality gor the money.

Bought a set of the stainless Chinese long tube headers for like around $300. Had to return them, could not match up flanges to head before collector hit frame rail below.

You may likely be looking for long tube headers but I strongly considered these short headers made by Thornton before deciding on reproduction W and Z manifolds for my 72 442. They are supposed to bolt right up to factory head pipes. Thought I’d pass them along. If it’s not what you want, they may have a good recommendation if they don’t carry long tube.

From the information I’m gathering, I need to go back to 350 clam shells and upper motor mounts.
I changed them both out to big block mounts when I went with the 455. (Never a straight answer as to what to do when you go through these things?)
Ordered some 350 upper mounts, already have the 350 lower clam shell, so will see in the future.
I do have a friend who has a brand new set of Summet-G9139 ceramic coated header to try out. Will see.
Thanks to all

You don't need to change anything. So long as the motor and frame mounts match, the engine will be in exactly the same place. Neither set will matter for header fitment.

Joe P,
Thanks for the reply.
I did purchase a new matching set of big block 455 engine mounts from a vendor on eBay. I did have a little trouble pinning the drivers side mount when installing, about 2/16” off center? Maybe I didn’t come down straight from the git-go, don’t know, but did get it pinned after all.
The first set of headers I tried was a stainless steel Chinese set off eBay and they were a no-go install. Could not get the header flange to mate to the heads before the collector hit the frame rail. (Possible a bad choice of header selection.) I now have a new set of Summit brand G-9139 to try.
So from what you are saying is that the small block and big block motor mounts don’t matter as long as they are matched. Engine will be in the same place with either set of mounts so long as they are a matching set….cool beans!!!! Hoping the new set of Summit headers will drop in with little to no trouble.
Thanks again Joe
