finely made contact with a guy, tried since 2002
as some of you have read from one of my other posts, i have tried to get hold of this guy in Lafayette IN since 2002. he has many Oldsmobile's in his yard and a VERY big barn. the newest Oldsmobile in the yard is a 68 toronado. there are many 64 ninety eights a couple 1950 Oldsmobile's. two 1949 76 Oldsmobile's. 62 dynamic 88 and many other cars. a couple old Pontiac's and Chevy's. even a 194? Jaguar and austin healey. well i stopped today and they were home. he said he don't like tire kickers so i told him that i am an Oldsmobile nut and would like to talk, buy, sell, whatever he wants to do. he agreed to show me around. after we talked for a little bit he figured out that i was interested in what he had to say as much as the Oldsmobile's. he said that he almost never invites anyone into the barn but would like me to come inside to show me around. WOW!!!!! this barn is full of everything! first thing i noticed was a 62 ninety eight convertible and 62 starfire. it was like a museum inside. bicycles, ringer washers, old sweepers (a story in itself), you name it. the other cars were model As, model Ts, 29 Oldsmobile, 2? Pontiac's, Desoto, Kaiser, two 65 mustangs, and many more. there is no way to explain how awesome it was. i had my camera in the truck but there was no way i would have asked to take a picture of anything, he was to protective for that. he did invite me and my wife back to look some more when we had more time. we did not even see half of what he had.
i know that this is long but i am just so excited at what i seen and learned from this guy. i wish he lived closer. i could hang out with this guy all the time.

Talk about taking a trip back in time!! I could only imagine how that musta felt. I don't blame him for being protective! Being from the Detroit area, I'd have to build a compound with gun turrets, razor wire and the whole nine yards...and that's just to keep the honest folks out! LOL!
My Dad used to live in rural Saskatchewan (Canada) about 1 1/2 hours north of Minot, ND and there was a guy with such a barn near where he lived.....out in the middle of nowhere. My Dad knew the guy and whenever I visited him I begged him to take me over there to show me the barn but, unfortunately, we never did. My Dad has since moved away from there and I guess so has my chance of ever seeing what treasures might have been there! I can only imagine...
Take the Interstate & see nothing OR take the backroads and see EVERYTHING! 'nuff said!

just to add what else was there. there was a 192? bicycle with wood wheels, schwin whizzer, motor scooter built during WW2 from army surplus steel, Sears and Roebuck motor scooters. the sweeper mentioned above, it took one person to turn the crank and another person to sweep the floor. there was old toys everywhere. he had an electric refrigerator that he said was the very first one ever made. i figure it was the first model and not the first one but not sure. my wife and i will be going back next spring with the 72 cutlass to spend more time with them. he said he would consider selling the 29 Oldsmobile and maybe the one 49 Oldsmobile but other than that he would not sell anything. the cool thing about this guy is that his wife is as much into all this stuff as he is. he is a retired industrial arts teacher.
These guys are all over your lucky he talked to you. My wife spotted a place by Vader WA just of I-5 and told me about it. I stopped there a week ago on my way back from Portland, OR. You could see several cars from the road a few sere a number vintage hotrods with flatheads setting in the open a 57 Olds 2dr hardtop. 37 ford two door sedan the were several cars covered with tarps and a number of large metal containers plus a couple of buildings. But the driveway to the house was chained up and the place was posted with no trespassing signs all over the place. No mail box so now way to contact anybody. Makes you wonder whats on the guys mind just letting them rot like that
After all this time, I am taking my dad to see this place in the morning. I have lost the guys number so I hope he is home. He was not getting around very well when we were there in 2009 so i hope he is still well. I will see how it goes but if it feels right I will ask if I can take a couple pictures. Words just don't tell how much he has. I have never even seen a place like this on American Pickers. I looked this thread up because i need a refresher as to what we seen and I had forgot about the bicycle with wood wheels till now. I will keep you posted on what happens.
He let me take some pictures but I only took some of specific things. I did not take any of the Oldsmbiles because I can alway see Oldsmobiles. I wanted to be conservative on how much I ask to take a picture of something so i only took pictures of three things. One was a 20 horse crude fired engine. This is from New Mexico and ran an ice manufacturer till the 60s.

This a a great story Eric. I just realized the original post was from 09. Glad you got some pics. These guys usually loosen up as they get more comfortable with you. I would stay in touch with him. Sounds like a museum!
Valve lathe. Hand crank bench mount. Never heard of one of these.
This guy was a teacher and it is incredible how good he must have been at it because I sure learned alot today. My dad is 61 and also learned alot today.

I counted 14 Oldsmobiles but i think there were more. Around 12 or so other cars as well. He is 83 and said he has to live to be a little over 300 years old to get all his projects complete.
This one is a 1952 Jaguar
