Cutlass help
In answer to your question, yes there is. It really doesn't matter where you are located. It may take some time to find them but they do exist. Read reviews. There will always be somebody that is an ahole and impossible to please that will write a bad review but there should not be many of those. Go and talk to the folks at the place and get a feeling for them. If you are in a car club ask other members or people you work with. A referral is the best source you can have. You might start with small stuff like inspections just to get a feel for the place you select. I did that with a place I use. I do a lot of my own stuff but use them for stuff I cannot do or don't won't to do. I took my Olds there for an inspection last week and they didn't even charge me.
Not to be a smart *** but the state is 50K mi2
Get a little more specific: for the crowd to help you.
General location. Upstate, Down, Adirondacks LI, NYC.
What do you want done?
Whats the budget?
Daily driver weekend street/strip track.
It's hard to help without a crystal ball.

Start watching U tube vids. If you know how to use a wrench, most of the stuff is not hard to do. Winter is coming so no garage/working in driveway is no fun.
You may seriously want to think about the amount of money it is going to cost you and then look for a car that is already built. You may save a ton of money that way.
I would like to know what exactly is wrong with the car and what you would like done to the car. I could give you an guesstimate of what it will cost.
Photos would help a lot as well.
The car
1987 cutlass supreme brougham

Well everything from the 307 engine will fit on the OLDS 350,. brackets, exhaust, radiator AC.
If you went with the Chevy 350 you would have to change all of that and that equals more $$. If you wanted the Chevy engine I recommend going to a pull a part junkyard and getting the brackets and other items you will need. That would be the cheapest for the Chevy engine.
Did you hear either of these 2 engine run?
Assuming both engine run well, I would do a rear main seal, oil pan gasket, oil pump, timing chain,, timing chain gasket and water pump. Since they are out of the car it is a lot easier to do.
If you wanted to do head gaskets and maybe an aluminum 4 barrel intake while it is out that would be up to you. If it was mine I would do it. At least you know the engine shouldn't have any leaks.
Are you are keeping or removing the CCC Computer Command Control System. Basically the emission control crap like the computer controlled carb and distributor.
If yes ok. If no you will need a distributor and a carburetor.
These are things just off the top of my head. Will there be more things? Absolutely yes.
Did you drive the car the trans came out of? What trans is in the car now?

Craigslist is on “life support”. Don’t believe anyone really goes there anymore to look for stuff to buy. It may work in a few areas, but a lot of “dead zones” exist.

As far as getting the work done and not feeling ripped off, a reputable shade tree mechanic is probably your best bet.
The mid 70's Olds 350 were very durable, it cared for and accurate mileage, it should run great. It should have a big 8 by the number 1 and 8 spark plug and a 39558 casting number behind the water pump. A 350 with 3A by the spark plugs and a casting number ending with with a 3B are much less desirable, especially if planning a total overhaul in the future. There should be new gaskets everywhere on the 350, including a neoprene rubber rear main seal in place of the factory rope seal. Also the nylon coated cam gear, should be replaced at this time. The 2004R should at least have the stator checked, replaced if any spline wear, a big Transgo shift kit with the servo installed and maybe a deep pan and bottom feed filter installed along with the front and rear seals. Even if the stock pan is used, a new pan gasket and filter should be done. A Monte SS 7 5/8" rear should be either 3.42 or 3.73, which will wake up the car over the 2.14 factory ratio, big time. The Olds 350 with dual exhaust will be around 200 HP and 300 TQ. The basic factory D9 2004R torque converter, which most come with, stall around 1900 rpm, about perfect. Will it be fast, no but not horrendously slow like it is now. The Olds 350 is so much easier than a sbc swap. The pre Vortec sbc 350 truck engines are just as lame as the smog Olds 350, so there is no gain there, stock to stock. Good luck.
[QUOTE=TURNA;1456285]So do you want to fix it up or sell it then?
if I cannot get it on the road myself I will have to sell it the car is on Craigslist in Staten Island just in case someone does want it but in the meantime I’m still looking for mechanic
