Right off the bat...I am not looking to replace my fuel pump. This is more of a general info type of question. I like looking at parts sites just to see what's out there and how much things cost now a days.

For a 70-72 Cutlass, are fuel pumps different between a/c and non a/c cars? I see lots of pumps for sale out there labeled "non a/c", but absolutely nothing that lists pumps for a/c oldsmobiles. I just thought that that was odd and was curious if there is a difference and what might that be.

 

Cars with A/C usually have fuel pumps with the 3rd fuel hose nipple. I thought all A/C cars were originally equipped that way, but that subject was brought upa few months ago, I was corrected

 

First, do not assume that any third party catalog listing is correct. Pretty much every third party listing for Oldsmobile motor mounts, water pumps, or fuel pumps will be wrong. The best way is to use the factory parts book to find the factory part number, then cross reference that. As far as fuel return (the third port on the pump), Olds used this on cars that were prone to high underhood temperatures. This was typically cars with big blocks and A/C and cars with high performance engines. Recirculating part of the hot underhood fuel back to the tank helps keep it cool and combats percolation and vapor lock.
