PCV Question

Good afternoon all.
ODD things happened to me with my PCV valve. I ordered a bunch of tune up parts on line for my 70 455, 4bbl. (Its a transplant into a Cutlass Supreme Convertible). They sent me the PCV valve on the left. (See picture) Turns out the motor has the valve on the right. Went to my local parts store to obtain the correct one and he found it listed under 1977 Olds 350 . Everything he had under 70 455 looked like the smaller unit on the left. Opinions?
Thanks

The one on the left is the correct Olds PCV valve used from 1964 to end of V8 production in 1990.

The one on the right is a Chevrolet or Ford style. If you have a 455 (or any 64-90 Olds V8) with that PCV valve, it's probably had a different valve cover PCV grommet installed somewhere along the way. The Chevy style might fit in the Olds grommet, just won't fit in it tight like the Olds PCV valve will.

If the parts guy found it under 1977 Olds with 350, the listing was for one of those bastardized 1977 Delta 88s that came with a Chevrolet 350.

It might still be in the valve cover. Just someone had the Chevy style PCV in it. If the grommet is shaped to mount the PCV valve vertical it's probably the right grommet. If not most parts stores have or can get it, or there's always Fusick www.fusick.com

The big end of the Olds valve pushes into the grommet and "locks" into it. See if you can push the Olds valve in until all you can see is the top of the body and the small nipple. You'll feel it when it snaps in place.

Yes I tried that as soon as I got the "olds," pcv. Dosent fit. No biggie. I'll ride the other one until I change the grommet.
