Sport Steering Wheels

I found lots of information on cleaning the sticky from these wheels but nothing on how to keep it from coming back. Can it be done?

The stickiness is from plasticizers outgassing from the rim. You can't prevent it. Just clean it periodically.

I had a leather cover sewn on mine. In 30 months, the stickiness has not made its way out. Don't know if this is a long-term solution, but it sure looks pretty.

I had a sticky wheel I cleaned with 90% rubbing alcohol. The car was parked in my garage never driven, it was still sticky free three years later when I sold the wheel. I know from other experiences that 90% rubbing alcohol will remove a lot of residue that 70% will just smear. Maybe if I had been driving the car or if it had any UV exposure it might have returned.
