Missing since 1974, Michigan State alums launch statewide search to find long-lost car
"This is a mission from God, so we're going to keep searching." - Dennis Kline
7/14/19LANSING, Mich. — Sometimes the best ideas and most perfectly laid plans come together over a cheap pitcher of beer. That's what happened for a group of engineering students at Michigan State University in 1969, earning them an Oldsmobile Cutlass that they souped-up and turned into a competitive dragster.
Fifty years and several leads later, many of the guys who were involved in the program find themselves deeply entrenched in a mission to see if the car still exists.
It all started in the late fall of 1969. The student chapter of the Michigan State University Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) would gather at a bar in Okemos, Mich., called Monty's to unwind, talk about cars and drink some beers.

Project W-31: A Hands-On Lesson in Drag Racing for a Group of Michigan State University Engineering Students
Americans love to wax poetic about 1969—Woodstock, the moon landing, cool cars—but it also was a tumultuous time to be a young male. Postwar prosperity and optimism gave way to assassinations, the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, and general cultural confusion. But for a revolving door of Michigan State University (MSU) engineering students, 1969-1973 was a seminal period. Through an interesting sequence of events, they managed to convince Oldsmobile, MSU and its chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and a host of suppliers to support the preparation of a race car on a shoestring budget.

Rumor has it this car was a body only no vin number donated for the project...out the back door so to speak. therefore it was probably never street driven or registered, unless documents and numbers were faked/added later.
