A buddy of mine picked up a set of wide oval tires that are in good shape. I have one that I believe was the original or early spare tire with my 1970 442 and didn't think they've been made for a while. The ones he got are F7014's, which makes me think they may be old. Does anyone know if they're still making them? If not, when did they stop? The picture I saw looked like a nice tire, but if they're 30 years old I'm thinking they may be good for a show car that's trailered but not a daily driver.

 

They are still making them. In bias ply, and now radial as well.

 

Coker Tire has the rights to make them as reproductions. I have used them on several of my cars.

 

They are expensive but look fantastic. You can actually get the proper 14" dimensions in a modern radial tire. Here are a few pics of the radial off the Summit site, amazing but pricey.

I had put some Diamond Back red lines on the 67 years ago before I sold the car a few years ago. Great quality too.

 

I have a set of the Coker reproduction Firestone Wide Ovals, but they are now about 10 yrs old, so I am going to get a new set soon. This time I plan to get the radials that maintain the bias ply original look. I am surprised that they do not also produce a 60 series in the 14 inch tire (I realize the 70 series was the orig size, but 60 series would look nice too)

 

I agree, a 60 or 65 series with 26" to 27" tall height in a 14" would be good. These are a limited application tire anyways and they certainly charge for them to make their money back. If they were only $50 more a tire than Radial TA's it would be a no brainer but at over double the cost is tough to swallow.
