1972 CS rear disc brake conversion.

Looking through some older posts about disc brake conversions for the rear. One says the one from Inline tube requires a 15" wheel. However, aren't the 14' and 15" wheels identicle in the dish? Couldn't a 1/2" wheel spacer work for the rear? Just invested in newer 14" SSII wheels and tires, was hoping to keep them for a conversion to disc. Any thoughts???

First, the "indentical in the dish" thing ONLY applies to SSII/SSIII wheels. Other 15" wheels are completely different. More to the point, because the SSII/III wheels use the same center stamping on both 14" and 15" versions, the outer rim on the 15" version has a very large drop to meet the center from the 14" wheel. Because of this, even 15" SSII/III wheels will not clear most aftermarket rear disc swaps.

rear disc

I installed a few years ago a stainless steel brakes rear disc kit, it went on great, had to fab and weld onto housing a bracket for the rear disc brake hoses, otherwise was a complete kit, and they will take any original 14 inch wheel ,at least that was what their tech's quoted, used a drum -drum combination valve and a disc-disc master cylinder, greatly improved stopping, Tim

So a wheel space won't work with the inline tube kit?

Stainless Steel Brakes

you can also check with Right Stuff Detailing, they have a couple kits that work with 14" wheels.

Summit and Jegs are retailers for Right Stuff, so Id check them for best pricing.

Personally, I would never use a wheel spacer on any of my cars, Ive seen a few fail or come lose

I have 15 inch cragars,on it and have since 1977, when I bought the kit in the instructions it said they would fit with 14 inch wheels, I would call or email and verify before hand, Tim

i installed TheRightStuff disc brake conversion set on my 70 cutlass (AFXDC41C). Car is not on the road yet but the only gotcha was that i had problems with the rotor fit on the axle. The o-type has a raised ring (ridge) on each end where the rotor attaches to the rear (the rotor adapter piece slides over the slides over the rear. Well i needed like 1/8 lathed off each end to fit the rotors. Since i was having the rear re-geared i had the shop lathe it. Rest of the install (front and back) seem good but not tested.
