My steering wheel has a sticky feel to it. I would like to find an old school wheel wrap. The type i'm looking for was one made of vinyl that stretched over the wheel and used vinyl lacing that wrapped the entire way around the wheel.
Anyone know where/who sells what I'm looking for?

 

i found an item like that on amazon.

If its the sport wheel it kinda makes the wheel very fat.

I use mequires rubber cleaner on mine takes the sticky out for a year or two

 

Or, you could just wipe it down with auto paint pre-cleaner or GooGone.

 

I used 90% rubbing alcohol and the wheel stayed good for four years until I sold it. It was always parked in the garage and didn’t see much sun though. It may not last as long on a daily driver but for me it worked out.

 

I bought a sticky wheel and just wiped it down real good with a towel dipped in warm water about 10 dip and wipe cycles. Drive it 3 seasons and the sticky feel has never returned. Been about 7 years now.

I have a can of pre-cleaner that I will use before putting a cover on my steering wheel.
The Orielly store just down the street has the cover I’m looking for in stock.

 

You might consider a steering wheel cover by Wheelskins:

They are about the same price as the ones available from the auto parts store and they fit perfectly.

 

Got my steering wheel wiped down with pre-cleaner which seams to have removed all the stickiness and also picked up a cover like the one I was looking for at Oriellys for under $9.00 I’ll install it later and be a happy camper.

Got mine off Amazon a few years ago - need to get the 16", the recommended size is too small. I love the way it looks and feels

 

I used to love those covers and still have one in the box. However I did use a Wheelskins cover on my 54 Olds and love it. It was more than $9.00 though.

 

Yeah, $9 is hard to beat. I spent more than that on my Wheelskins cover. It's a good deal though if you want to cover a steering wheel instead of tackling a restoration right away.

 

I did the recommend wheel skins and never looked back. I love how it feels. The price was worth it to me.

 

I really like these cheep covers. Had one on my 69 442 that I bought new in 69 on my return from Vietnam.
My current 69 442 is near a perfect match to that car.
I got the cover on my steering wheel today and I’m pleased with how it came out.

I agree with that. My 54 has a skinny wheel that has a couple cracks. The wheel skin was a nice fit and the color matched my interior nicely. After I put it on I had the horn ring rechromed and now my wheel really looks nice. It is a lot cheaper than having the steering wheel restored and I like the feel a lot better.

 

My Cutlass had one like in post #10 on it when I bought it. It flew out the window not 2 miles from the show

 

To each their own. Don’t like it, don’t buy it or use it!
I personally like mine and as it’s my ride, I’ll use it

 

Post pics when you get a chance. The padded steering wheel covers are almost as iconic to hot rod culture as fuzzy dice!

FWIW, if you like it, that's what matters. As long as momma stays happy too.
