Correct Ignition Coil

1968 Cutlass S, low comp 350. Believe the ignition coil is shot and I want to replace. Only thing not stock is I replaced the points with Petronix. Old coil has no markings. Is a "use with external resistor" coil correct? (Standard 803?)

With the Petronix system, I always use the coil also.

So the "use with external resistor" coil is correct? (Standard 803?). You mean the Flamethrower coil - right?

I meant to say, use their coil, has the correct resistance built in, to work with their system. Not sure what the number is?

Educate me, why would you need a resister on a pointless system whether it is Pertronix or HEI? Isn't the purpose of the resistor to drop the voltage so the points don't burn. No points no burn. What I'm I missing here.... Still lost in the fifties.... Tedd
