72 cutlass convertible

bought for 15000. Previous owner rebuilt original 455 motor and trans. They put on new quarter panels, front fenders and trunklid and painted the car. I Put new wheels and tires on, in picture. Newer top still on frame but out of car. Newer top pump. New rear seat cover but not in car. New carpet. Bench seat. New brake lines rear. Rebuilt 3:08 Chevy rear end from 68 chevelle with new bearings and posi unit. 1700.00 invested in that. New rear upper control arms and new bushings in original boxed bottom control arms. Comes with sway bar. New gas tank and sender as well as lines to front. New brake lines rear to proportioning valve. No radio. No exhaust, Needs fuel pump. Rear seal in trans leaks even though they rebuilt trans. Will need chevy joint on back of drive shaft. New brake shoes and hardware needs installed. What it this worth ? Will finish and price acordingly if I have to.

Get it drive-able As a car you can't drive I'd say $8K max.

Nice looking car that will make someone happy. Just curious, I have a 72 and want to put the same wheels on it, what size did you go with?

Gary,
Nice 72 restomod. Pricing can be awkward at the best of times. Have you looked at Oldsmobilecentral.com for comparison pricings? Looks like the black them extended to the filler panels for the headlights. BTW the headlight bezels are on upside down - seriously. Look at the way they should be in this picture. The wide part should be to the inside by the grill. That also allows access to the headlight alignment screws.

Thanks Allen.

It's how I got it. Need to fix them. Getting 3 to 4 hours sleep a night right now. Keep forgetting to get tire size for previous poster. Tomorrow I'm off, will try then.

It sounds (from the description) that it still needs a lot of work done but you have the parts in or about the car to get it finished? Why would you want to sell it? I looked around at various 1972 verts to find a median price as per your original question. They are advertised (in decent shape) from 15,900 to (excellent shape and one being a HO) 31,000. Average price is around 20,000 but those cars appear to be stock (all the brightwork, vg/exc paint and complete interiors)

3-4 hours a night just doesn't cut it. You need to catch up on some zzzz's.

Tire sizes.

245/60R15 on 8 inch wheels in front
255/60R15 on 8 inch wheels on front
I did drive it but not much before parking it. I bought about 20,000 worth of trans, new motor, interior, disk brakes, suspension, you name it. etc etc to put into it BUT never put it in and now plan to get married and expecting a baby in February. Sold ALL the stuff I was going to put into it and original stuff was not removed. Numbers matching. Getting it back together to sell. It was fine before I took it apart. I just wanted 4 speed, buckets, resto-mod type car. Previous owner spent 30,000 plus before I got it. They sold for a divorce. Ironically I'm selling to get married. LOL.. It is better than was since I put on new tires/wheels, new gas tank and lines, new brake lines to back and had rear end rebuilt with positraction.

It's a lot of work and most of the time no one looks there anyway. But I understand your motivation - I did all that too. Only I didn't remove my exhaust. Are you also replacing the brake lines?

Nice car. Not sure why someone would swap in a C clip rear, especially on a 72 with the superior bolt in axles but with the "corporate" gears, which makes gear swapping much easier and cheaper. Good luck on the sale.

Replacing brake lines and all fuel lines since tank is new. Picked up that rear end because it was available and had 3:08 gears. Low enough to do some good but not too low to hurt the A/C compressor. Was cheap too, until I found out I had to rebuild it. Once I had to rebuild it I decided to have a new posi unit put in.

I certainly wish you better success with the marriage, and congratulations on the anticipated arrival of your newest Oldsmobile member

Only thing that might be an issue for you is getting the selling price you want for it. You know how the collector car market is for these cars, especially when the price is north of $20K Lots of work going into it and I wish you the best with the sale.

The price will be less than 20 thousand. I did not have rubbing in the front with those tires but also did not drive it long before taking apart.

Allen,I know why they put them on that way. Finally got around to switching them and realized they didn’t put the fender fillers in so they compensated for it that way.

This is why I haven’t got much done on the Cutlass. Got let go from work in January just before he was born. Waiting on the social distancing stuff to end and enjoying this.

So what ever became of this car? I love the color. Hope you all are healthy and happy.

I had 245 60 15's in the front on my 70 and zero issues ever by the way. Stuffed the rear with 275 60 15's. No issues there either.
