Stereo Questions......Cutlass Convertible

Hello to all. I searched for a related post, but was not satisfied with the results, sorry.

I have a 71' Cutlass Convt. I want to upgrade the stereo. I plan to go with an afteramarket head unit, but the speakers have me slightly confused. Besides the front dash, were there any other factory speakers in this car? What are some of the speaker options that have been successful?

I heard about the kick panel speakers, but there has to be something else. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

On my 72 the back package trey has two mounts. But on your vert places to place speakers is limited. I have heard go news bad news on kick panel speakers like when they are cranked they vibrate but they are better than nothing at all. The dash speaker if not stereo can be replaced with a new stereo unit two speakers in one. Better than nothing.

I have seen people put speakers in convertibles in the rear armrest/hydraulic covers.

No idea how they would sound though.

I have a 71 vert. At anything over 40 mph you can't hear anything. That is with a single exhaust stock. If you have duals with loud pipes forget it unless you want to drive with the top up. Which defeats the idea of a convertible. IMO

X2 on What he said. I have flow masters on my 69 and can't hear the kid next to me at the stop light with his bass on full blast.

FWIW when I got my 75 88 Royale convertible, one main objective was decent audio on the highway with the top down, and I have it. Kept the original factory AM/FM Stereo, added an amp in the trunk, added an FM modulator to provide an AUX cord to play iPod and satellite through the original FM, and replaced all speakers (fronts had already been relocated to under dash, 6" rounds, and replaced rears (in back of rear seat firing back) 6x9

Sounds great! Looks factory.
