Congratulations on the carburetor and rear axle. I guess there is still hope finding a good 7040253, that is also reasonably priced.

according to what I’m reading here I have a choice of 3.42 and 3.90s or smaller

I believe I have at least 3.90 gears in the car now maybe higher, I don’t plan on drag racing the car on the track so looking at the 3.42 gears . At 60 mph I’m over 3000 rpms so like to calm that down a bit

Ive been looking around a lot since I got this car and that carb is pretty hard to find . This one was a little pricey but it’s the correct one for the car and that’s what I’m trying to get the car to. It will never be a numbers matching car but it will have period correct parts when I’m done

Do you know if the rear has the factory differential / gears or aftermarket?

The rear that is in the car is a 10 bolt rear I have not had the cover off , it is a posi that’s as much as I know about it as of now have not had enough spare time to pull the cover off, just stock piling the parts I know I want to replace. The guy I bought the car off of purchased it the way it is 4 years ago drove it about 2000 miles and sold it to me
i have the info of the guy that did the restore and tried calling him but no return messages

Have fun. Nothing like getting the parts you need to get the car you want. That is why we're in the hobby yes?

Its fun to see a project come together and the hard work it takes to get there. Lots of planning and task work.

Numbers matching or not , your car looks amazing! The new carb along with 3:42 gears will make for a nice cruiser. .

OK, I misunderstood. I thought you had an O-Type with 3.90 gears, which is why I was asking factory or aftermarket as the O-Type gears are specific to certain series carriers.

Yes but think I read with the aftermarket carrier I can go with Richmond gears in the sizes

Yes, the Richmond Gears and aftermarket carriers are based on the factory 3.08-3.23 gears/carrier.

yeah that’s what I was reading if I can find a factory posi unit I would definitely take that over the aftermarket but probably a lot harder to find
