Rear axle and differential

Are the rear differentials the same for 1968 and 1968 cutlass? Type O
I have a 1969 open with 2:56 gears and may have access to a 1968 with 2:73 gears. Is it worth it or is this to small a difference?

Welcome to the site. You won't like those gears either.

The Type "O" differentials are the same for both years. You'll still get pretty good gas mileage with the 2.73 and it should be a little quicker (not much, but a little) than the 2.56.

Type O would be 2.78, you run a few hundred more on the highway, leave it alone. I have those gears and added a TH350C to have similar cruising RPM to the 2.56 gears.
