1970 442 replacing woodgrain on dash

Replacing the woodgrain on my dash in my 70 442 is one of my winter projects. My question is accessing the back of the wiper switch to pull it out of the way. Can I get to it by pulling out the gas gauge only or will I need to pull the speedo as well?

Just depends on how flexible you are and how small your fingers are. I'd plan on pulling all three gauge pods. The speedo is only annoying if you haven't disconnected a speedo cable before.

Of course, what's circled in that picture is the convertible top switch opening and dress plate. The wiper switch is off to the right. The speedo doesn't help much with that one because it's off to the side.
Those speed nuts for the dress plates are very very small and very very tempermental. It's hard to get square on them because they're so short. The posts get chewed up easily. Take you time and have some mirrors and magnets handy.

I'd start with the gas gauge but having them all out does make it easier. I have also been able to get those off by going through the bottom of the dash.

A/C car?

If so, go thru the gauge pod openings. Use a flexible mirror.

I did it, and it was not that bad.

AC & bench seat car Thanks
Maybe I'll have my 12 yr old daughter do it. She has thinner fingers
