build date

does anyone have any idea when they quit building 66 442's or cutlass? mine has a build date on trim tag of 07C. And the 442 emblem on the dash is for a 67 and had been on there for a long time because of age staining on back of badge. maybe someone liked the 67 badge better, it does look better. lot of work but we do strange things to our cars back in the days.

Think the end of production back then was mid August, do changeover in two weeks and start producing new models in September.

looks like a pretty full month of production in July '66 for F85 20,466 built

Lansing got to somewhere around assigned VIN # 6M435049 by the end of the '66 model year, how high is yours?

different plant?

'66 Toronado production ended in June '66

my 66 vin # is 6M442837 and built in lansing. thanks for the info. I bought a new 66 442 at the end of sept of 1965 and now i have one built at the end of the run in 1966 and both are burgundy mist cars and the only difference is this one was 2 tone with a white roof (n-c) and a tri-power setup.

that's pretty late/late/late! ??
338176M434797 is the highest VIN sequence I've seen

151,607 Oldsmobile full-size
183,442 F85
335,049 - total '66 Lansing built (non-Toronado) Oldsmobiles 6M100001+

6M442837
6M435049
6M**7788 difference (seems like an ODD number)

the math doesn't always add up due to on-line accidents, scrappage, other - but almost 7,800 units seems too high to be reasonable

what am I missing?

i'm glad i asked this question, I checked my original application to title/ reg. a vehicle from the state of mn. and the vin # is 6m442837 but when the title with my Minnesota motor vehicle registration/ cab card came it shows Vin# 6m422837. At a later date I put personal plates on and vin was corrected.a 2 instead of a 4 makes a difference.

what a difference a "typo" makes!

With roughly 12,212 assigned VINs after your car & 8+ days of production remaining at Lansing, there should be some later "07D" built 442s.

..... but the question remains, was 442 dash emblem inventory depleted & did late '66 produced 442s have the '67 442 dash emblem?

hard to believe they ran out of emblems with 11,960 cars to go but its possible. I heard when they ran out parts near the end of the run they would use parts from the next year if they could. 67 I could believe is possible.Never will know.thanks again.ps the girl that took my information also wrote down 86 instead of 66.

only a small percentage of the remaining cars would be 442s

it has Goodyear Polyglas H70-14s (~235/70/14) on all four corners (it had cargo coils on the rear in that pic) I've got the stock springs in there now but they are tired & need replaced.

when i got my car it had air shocks ( after market) and I liked being able to change the height of the backend, I don't like the tail draggers look. the rear bumper has a hole for the valve stem behind the license plate.can always change it.If I ever figure out how to post pictures I will.
