Is it RARE ?

Just got this aluminum thermostat housing with press in tube all my other ones are cast iron. Is this one I have rare or not ? Have a pic later with part number. I have the aluminum and cast iron with no tube also.

As I recall the thermostat housing on my 64 98 was aluminium. When I tightened it I use a 9 ft. breaker bar and gorilla strength causing it to crack. My Dad and I were able to get it repaired by a welding shop in KCMO.

I guess aluminum thermostat housings are indeed out there. I'm not so sure how rare they are though. Hopefully someone else knows.

Don't think I ever seen an aluminum one with a press in tube. Are you sure it is a GM part? Not sure what years it would have come on.

I have had 3 of them I think I still have one, but in bad shape. From what I understand they were used, and had lots of problems so they replaced them with the cast one

This was the case on the other style that did not have the pressed in tube. He is saying he has an aluminum one with the pressed in tube. The other style without the pressed in tube is not that rare

I thought these were late '70's or '80's?

I actually ordered one from someplace and it came in an AC Delco box, made in India. It didn't take long for it to start leaking where the bypass pipe attaches to the housing. I replaced it with an original I cleaned up off a 71' motor and tossed it.

The one I bought from supercarsunlimited started leaking at the pressed in area. I used JB Weld on it. Never leaked again. The PartsPlaceInc sells both types if you want to look. Good luck.
