Going through my control arms and found this pair with bolts instead of nuts. Anyone no why these are different? I only part 68-72 so it has to be one of those. Thanks Brandon

 

Those ball joints don't look right.

 

I think that's the Chevy (& maybe B or P? ) setup with the bolts. I have a bagged set of the bolts & big washers that I acquired somehow that says "68-72 Control Arm". If those came off an Olds, maybe someone replaced the shaft & nuts with the C style parts ??

 

Factory setup for 66... My 442 has that style shaft setup and I believe my 67 does as well... I also have a spare set of control arms like that and I never parted out any 68-72 front suspensions (only 66 & 67)...

Any possibility early 68 may have used it from the factory? If not, someone obviously must have used them as replacements on their 68/72... But it is an Oldsmobile design control arm...

68-72 cutlass/442 used the nut style. This style(Bolt) was used on Chevelle's for sure, Chevelle never used the nut style in these years. I don't know about Pontiac/Buick.
Either style will fit the same arms. so if they were replaced some one could use Either style

 

I bought a front end rebuild kit from PST suspensions last year for my 70 442. The cross shafts with the bolts in the picture are exactly what I got. I knew they were wrong and didn't use them. Too late now to send them back. At least now I know they are for Chevelle. Buyer beware on these at PST..

 

Early 68 442 Cutlass have the nut as well. Those are Chevelle upper shafts. The A arm stamping is generic but no idea why Chevy uses a different set up?
Someone likely installed them on one of the Olds you parted. They will fit and function the same.
