Help with 1953 spindles (knuckle & support assembly)

Hi everyone
I have been offered a set of three spindle assemblies said to be from a '53 Olds.
To my untrained eye they look the part but the numbers don't seem to fit. Here's what is written on them.
The 3 uprights (the 'support' shown in the parts book diagram with running part no 6.023) have these #s:
  • one is 1456553, then a diamond shape, then 6
  • 2 are 1456554, then a diamond shape, then 6
  • there are #s on the spindle, hard to read. best I could do on one of the 554s was 001 144 1145 6 0 33B

Looking at the parts book the spindle (technically the 'knuckle' with diagrammed reference number 6.020) for a '53 should be 562402 or ...03. The upright (technically the 'support' with diagrammed reference number 6.023) should be 419668 or ..69.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm also keen to know on another thread if anyone knows why the '53 backing plate should be different from the '50's.

Cheers
Erik

The numbers observed on the parts are likely not part numbers. They were likely ID numbers used by the foundry. You could possibly find a match by comparing the numbers to the ones on your car. Ford did put part numbers on some of their parts, but not GM.
As you indicated the steering knuckle support (group 6.023) should be the same on '53 as on '50. Also as you noted, the steering knuckle assembly (group 6.020) changed in '53. Perhaps it was only to strengthen the spindle since it fits to 6.023. But until you compare the two that is not guaranteed.
