Best new/repro dual gate shift ****

Who makes/has the best/most correct '68-69 H/O dual gate shift ****? I know TPP carries them, wasn't sure it was worth spending the money to test the quality. I'm not sure what the correct diameter is supposed to be either, or if there's a part number for NOS...

I have a nice **** that came with the shifter assembly I'm going to use in my car, but when I had the handle replated, the thread external diameter shrunk, likely from the stripping process, and since they didn't chrome plate the threads, the external diameter wasn't restored. Combined with the threads in the shift **** being worn/loose, it now slips on and off. See video here...

There are products that can fix this, but I need the **** to at least loosely engage the threads first. Since the shift **** nut threads on (as seen in video), I'm holding out hope that a new/repro **** will at least loosely thread on, then I can get it snugged up with a repair.

just to make clear was the old shifter ball on the shifter before you had it rechromed? these ***** come in all sizes and thread pitch the 68-69 uses the 3/8-16 size daka-ware (on most) so that shifter ball you have isn't 1/2 inch by any chance?, also i have seen the repo ***** and they are identical in appearance so shopping around probably isnt worth the trouble, some original daka's always show up on ebay but are pricey

Yeah, they were originally paired together... it was a slightly loose thread fit but tightened down acceptably before rechroming. I was shocked when I got it back. The ID of the shifter ball is slightly bigger than it should be due to wear, but the threads shrunk by 0.020-0.030 on the handle.

The part number for the shifter ball is 406653. The later shifter ***** had a line around the center, why I don't know but it is noticeable. Fusick also has one for 21.50 I would go that route before TPP.

Thanks Fred. I'll call and ask Fusick if it's their part or whether they carry the TPP part... sometimes they are (like the OAI scoops), though I'd rather deal with them anyways.
