Olds break down !!!

Help please:
I have a 1966 442 all original the drive trains never been rebuilt. I've owned the car 5 years not had any major problems till yesterday driving to the DIXIE OLDS CLUB car show in CARTERSVILLE GA.The show was 60 miles from our home in Lawrenceville Ga.We took back roads most of the way,the car was running fine .About 20 miles from the show we had to get on interstate 75. I was running about 60MPH I could feel the engine start skipping not bad at first but it continue to get worse, then it stalled I was able to restart but it would just cut out again.Luckily Iwas by and exit so I decided we better get off. I coasted to te bottom of the exit trying to start it as we went it would start and run for a few seconds and stall I would have to rev the engine to keep it from stalling but that would only help for a couple of seconds. We made it to a gas station where I check and tried differnt things ie checked all wiring, checked fuel filter ect. ect .no luck final had it towed home waited 4.5 houre for tow truck and 175.00 later I was home.Does and one have any idea where I should start looking to fix my pride and joy Thanks Tom

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate breakdown. Engines need air, fuel, and a well timed spark to run. Start with the basics, check for a strong spark and see if you have fuel in the carb.

That's good advice. After you determine which vital is missing we can help to focus on the actual problem. It doesn't sound really serious at this time. Just send as much information as possible to get a good diagnosis.

Fuel filter would be my first guess.

Sounds like a fuel tank pickup sock to me, especially in an "all original" car.

Usually if it's a bad coil or choke, it won't restart well and then stall, it'll just not start.

Could be a fuel line that cracked and the car started sucking air instead of gas. Could also be a pickup sock as Eric mentioned. It most likely is a fuel problem.

Time for the red fuel can with a short hose to the fuel pump test.
