Video: W-30 on the road today

Been wanting to get in the car for a while and do this. Unfortunately the dash cam I bought for Eric when he had the car had some pretty bad audio, so I had my daughter hold my digital camera I use for everyday pics. It came out ok, but not perfect.

Pushed the throttle down a few times, but not the whole way. This car had to be so much fun to drive back in the day when everyone wanted to race.

The video is unlisted so you have to use this link:

Thanks guys! It was still getting a lot of the wind since we had to have the windows down, but when I did get on the throttle you definitely can't hear any wind then.

Thanks! Over 100 views so someone is enjoying it...possibly over and over again. HA! One thing that surprised me is how smoothly the car is on the road. Really was expecting to feel things a lot more.

Unlike the tuners these Oldsmobile's ride like Cadillac's while sporting power. After watching your video again I'm buying more parts. Having withdrawals from lack of quality muscle. Sold mine in November. When asked why I'm spending so much I'm going to blame it on your Video. I'll just say "He started it ". LOL. Enjoy your ride.

I read somewhere that the manual cam with headers puts out an additional 40 HP vs the 370 HP stock auto. Is this a valid number?

Quoting myself here, I know, but I found this online and wanted to report back. According to this Hot Rod article, the 4 speed cam engine dyno'd at 418.8 HP @5000 and 522 torque @3400. And that's without headers. Wow!

Glad to see you're enjoying it! I saw you go thru the light at the CVS on Hwy 27. Sounded beautiful and you can hear it coming!

I had the Stingray out for a morning run while the temps were low and I could get some tire bark without the county popo interference.

I would have stopped at the Bojangles coming out of Stanley in the beginning of the video... I wish they had one around here.
Oh... nice car too!

Oh, I see. Been a while but I've been to Montage around there. If you were local, I was going to find out if you wanted a ride in it.

If I was local I would take a ride in it!
Nice area down there, my cousin lives in Taylorsville and my dad has a place in Emerald Isle. If it wasn't for their firearm and motorcycle helmet laws, I'd probably live in NC.

I was heading the opposite direction. But if you want to get together for a skirmish, I'm up for it.

Not sure if I want to push the car since it won't be mine soon. However, I'm sure it would be quite the sight to see. Back road drag race like the old times.

Maybe I'm biased

The Vette had a 4 speed and better gears as well as fiberglass body. I thought it was a respectable run for the Olds. Wondering if the results would be different if the Olds had the 4 speed and lower gears. Awesome video. Buying MORE parts now. Riding this " he started it" for all I can.

At 115 mph, the Olds was already pushing 6000 RPM with its 4.10 gears. I wouldn't suggest going further. In fact, he might be over-geared, as the 'Vette appeared to catch up to him on the big end. I doubt the Olds would run any quicker with a 4-speed, other than the weight reduction. That was a respectable run, and an L88 'Vette is a potent combination.

Agreed. Good points. The Olds is my favorite but both cars are top notch.

Not too many people have had the experience of looking out over the OAI hood while driving an authentic W-30. Congrats!

Thanks guys, it really is so amazing to drive. I could only imagine how much fun he had in it.

As my wife's grandpap said about my father in law, "If I would have been with him that day when he got it, he would never have bought that car." But her grandma was there instead and she claimed she didn't know it was a fast car. HAHA!

Then I heard the story from my wife's aunt how grandpap actually used to take every potential car purchase out on a test drive and if it didn't go 100 MPH then he didn't buy it. So the need for speed obviously runs in the family.
