Another Dual Gate quiz

I have a stock 79 H/O. The factory Dual Gate is in good working condition and what I was told by a former owner,
the trans was rebuilt. I would like to play around with shift firmness and points and know about the modulator adjustments and govoner tricks.
I read somewhere that the Dual Gate was notorious for shift lag. By that I mean when at WOT running the gears through the HIS side there is not a instant shift when shifted from one gear to the next. Both 1-2 and 2-3. Any tricks to the shifter itself that I could do prior to mod and gov tweaks? I would assume that the trans was rebuilt to stock specs.
Not lookin to outrun anything. Just crisp up shifts.
Thanks in advance. Doug

The shifter has nothing to do with how quickly the transmission shifts, all it does is move the linkage through it's positions. The "HIS" side just has positive stops so that you can "slam" the gears without going passed the gear you want when racing.
I loved my dual gates when I had them and never experienced any difference between the different gates of the shifter as far as how the transmission shifted.

Install a semi-manual valve body with a TransGo shift kit.
