1970 W-30 Post 4 speed one of 142
1970 W-30 Post 4 speed one of 142.
I want to say thanks to John **** from the sYc for finding and helping me to acquire this W-30.
I swore off all project cars.......but couldn't resist this one.
Only 3,100 total W-30s produced in 1970 with only 142 4 speed Sport Coupes / Post Sedans.
The Black / Black with gold stripes is extra Kool, for me.
This W-30 is a low option car.
The 3.91 gear, the console, the radio, SS IIs and that's about it for options.
We have history back to the original dealership / owner as well as every subsequent owner. I am the 4th owner. Car traveled 75,000 miles and has lead a hard life.
The car doesn't look like this today unfortunately, but here it is with the original owner soon after it rolled off the show room floor.

He actually found the original owner and obtained an affidavit from him as well as the second owner who he purchased it from.
I'll post some current pics of it soon.
Original engine and Trans are missing in action and no factory documentation has yet been found in the car.
I don't think it has any professional race history, but there is evidence of a transmission explosion.
I know that some will not understand the why and to some it will never be a real W-30 because it doesn't have a broadcast sheet or the original engine, but there are those who will understand.

Frank was a very good guy to deal with and his description was spot on.

The car itself is strong evidence too. The sheet metal is original, so you have factory punched holes for the W-30 emblems and one of the fenders has the white crayon markings on the front inside.
Most of the other correct non std 442 bolt on items are there too.
W-25 hood
Sport Mirrors
Red Fender Well
Manual Disc Brakes
Original 4 speed tunnel
It was sold new at Jack Schmidt Oldsmobile, Inc. Westerville Ohio on 3-9-70 per the Warranty Booklet with 10 miles on it per the P-O-P.

Really like the color combination, and having the ownership history is the next best thing to factory docs in my opinion. Magna86, I'm in VB also, let me know if you ever want to catch up and talk Olds stuff.

I agree, every time I get in one of these cars I think about how the person felt on the day they bought the car, and the first time they drove it .... so cool

A doner W-Machine Block with an acceptable casting date and other W-Machine specific parts are on deck.

Not sure if this is the same car, but I recall reading something where the original engine and trans were stolen on this car while it was parked? Good luck with the sale. Cool W-30 and great original pics!
